About A Fool
« on: July 03, 2004, 06:16:37 AM »
This is the second song I heard "Steven" in.  I'm probably hearing it wrong.  Some of these are wrong, but I put in what I think I heard.

So much damage
Alone not out here
I think you're sinking
Can't swim or sit still
Steven's waiting there alone
He's drowning on his own

A fool to find out
Left his heart right in the sink
She tore it all to pieces when he left it there
A fool to find out that his heart washed down the drain
She threw away the pieces when he left it there

Talkin' to myself
Fallin' from the shelf

Still I wonder why
I ever let myself
Take my own advice
Still I wonder why
I ever let myself
Take my own advice

Steven's waiting
A man not out here(???)
I think he's drifting
To float on a whim
Must be a fool to think he could
Bring him back to her

A fool to find out
Left his heart right in the sink
She tore it all to pieces
When he left it there
A fool to find out that his heart washed down the drain
She threw away the pieces when he left it there

Talkin' to myself
Fallin' from the shelf

Still I wonder why
I ever let myself
Take my own advice
Still I wonder why
I ever let myself
Take my own advice

hehehe.

I just wanted to say thanks for typing all these lyrics out. I checked the rest of the site for the lyrics, but they weren't listed. That made me sad. THEN I came to the forum and seeing them all here was a treat!

Here's my take on it:

About A Fool

Someone standing alone on a hill
I think you're sinking, can't swim or sit still
Still he's waiting there alone
He's drowning on his own

The fool who fell in love left his heart right in the sink
She tore it all to pieces when he left it there
The fool who fell in love let his heart wash down the drain
She threw away the pieces when he left it there

Talkin' to myself
Fallin' from the shelf

Still I wonder why I ever let myself take my own advice
Still I wonder why I ever let myself Take my own advice

Still he's waiting, a man on a hill
I think he's drifting, to float on the wind
Must be a fool to think he could
Bring him back to her

A fool who fell in love left his heart right in the sink
She tore it all to pieces when he left it there
A fool who fell in love let his heart wash down the drain
She threw away the pieces when he left it there

Talkin' to myself
Fallin' from the shelf

Still I wonder why I ever let myself take my own advice
Still I wonder why I ever let myself Take my own advice
Still I wonder why I ever let myself Take my own advice

I think that these are some of Weiland's better lyrics and they also seem a lot more sincere.  It really is strange to me that these songs were cut.  This is the direction I hoped they would take.

I wish we could get the official lyrics.  Some of these are just too hard to hear.

Sweet.  This rules.  Is this to mean that there is more where these came from?  I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but any chance we'll be hearing "Only Dying?"

I highly doubt it.  There were only these 5 files.  I used some tools to highlight the vocal track in the song and extract it.  I'm working with what we have.

Who is this mysterious "Eric" that came upon these files?
How could they not notice it?! Because it's a little mint.  It's a Junior Mint!

I'm thrilled with all of the new-old songs... but those from SLDD are, by far, my favorite.  I must have listened to "Samba Nova" 10 times yesterday.  I really wish that it, along with "About a Fool" would have made the cut and been released.  They are just beautiful... makes me remember why I fell in love with STP in the first place.   :D

wow.  i've gotta say that scott's voice is amazing on this song.. along with the other 4 songs, of course.  Although I love these new songs, I'm sort of glad that they were cut.  I mean, SLDD was moody enough as it was.. not that that's necessarily a bad thing.  personally, though, i enjoy a good mix of soft, sentimental songs, and hard-rockin' tunes on my stp cds.  i think they've always done a great job in choosing the right songs for their cds/composing the order of the cds.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the same Eric who put together the Acoustic Type Thing CD years ago.  Isn't he Australian?  There was a guy around the community who ran one of the original unofficial websites (before Sean).  I thought this guy just disappeared.  But I haven't kept up much in the last few years.

That's what I've been looking forward to! I never thought I'd hear all these, either, so I'm still hopeful! If all of us storm atlantic we can steal the lost tracks!!!
