Here's the quote:

ROBERT: I remember the first gig we played as STP, and it was second stage in ’92 at Lollapalooza in Phoenix. I remember after we played, walking up to Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell who were talking together, and I said, “Hey” and introduced myself and talked a little about my band, and those guys just stood there looking at me and didn’t give me the time of day. They just looked at me like, “What do you want asshole?” It was just unbelievable, I guess, at how naïve I was. It’s hard for me to walk around with a chip on my shoulder like a lot of these bands were doing at that time. It’s a different atmosphere now. I feel like we’re the old guys.

KNAC.COM: Have you run into Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder since then?

ROBERT: No. There are so many nice guys I’d rather talk to. The guys from Staind and Godsmack are really cool.

I've heard that Cornell was kind of a dick back then.  Even he has admitted himself that during Soundgarden they always tried to act like they were too cool for everything.

That was quite an elaborate article. It had a lot of indepth info about how the band first met. It also has Robert poking a little fun at Ozzy but of course he still loves the guy. Great finding from 02!!

we can't always take for granted every thing people say.
because that's what they are: people.
and as much as i love their music, i don't forget that they have bad days, just like everyone else.

who knows if that's really what happened?
maybe it was his interpretation of something he felt at the time.
maybe chris and eddie were in the middle of a bad conversation and didn't liked to be interrupted.
maybe they really were assholes at the time.
maybe they just didn't like rob.
we don't have to like everybody.
maybe it was rob who was having a bad day and saw something negative.
maybe rob was the asshole back then.

my point is, don't take every thing people say as a solid fact, no matter how you love their work.
there's always another point of view.
and we weren't there to see it!

It's been 18 years since 1992.  A lot can happen in that amount of time.  People change.  I wouldn't hold Robert to anything he said so long ago.  First meetings can be awkward, even for rockstars!
