Ah, there we go! I got some of this stuff re-up'd.....
Core EraNotes About The Core Era Set
-The Japanese Import of Core is one of my favorite discs, and at the time it was a gold find due to the versions of Plush and Sex Type Thing bonus tracks. The acoustic version of Plush on this disc is still a great, studio recorded acoustic track.
-The Core DVD Audio disc is AWESOME. Find this thing and play it on your PS3 with the right calibration and it sounds terrific…. I wish they’d record all of their albums like Core, and then put them on DVD audio.
Purple EraNotes About The Purple Era Set
-I’ve placed my Unplugged Boot here due to the weird crossover period with Big Empty. This is a great boot with a nice quality copy of the show. I’ve replaced the missing “Sin” with a live version just to carry the feeling of the original setlist. I wish STP would either repair the damaged audio from the original Sin track, or just rerecord it acoustically so we could have heard how it sounded
-The ISL digipak and Vasoline singles were awesome releases at the time. I remember how cool it was to find additional live material on each disc when I bought them from a Tower Records more or less
15 make that
23 years ago now
-The “Boggling” bootleg drives me nuts. It’s not a great boot, but I’m missing the original cover for the disc. I’ll probably never get it either… ugh.
Tiny Music EraNotes About The Tiny Music Era Set
-The Tiny Music Japanese import was a bit disappointing, as it only had a live version of Meat Plow as the bonus track.
-I’m missing a lot of stuff from this era, although I do have some concerts on video. This is around the era where Silver Disc concert recordings went the way of the dodo, so most of my Tiny Music material is on a hard drive or some random VHS tapes.
-There weren’t any worthwhile single releases from this era as they were all just bland singles with the album tracks. I might start filling in the gaps from this era soon though… as an afterthought.
No. 4 EraNotes About the No. 4 Era Set
-looking back on it, this might be my favorite era for STP. They had a new album after years of absence. It was a straight up hard rock album, with some amazing tracks, and it was widely well received.
-I’ve got the No. 4 Digipak here on the top left, along with the import in the middle, and then the WMMR interview disc on the right
-The House of Blues boot is my own design. 2-disc set, and I created all of the art for it. I even split the cover art between the two CD’s, so that when they are side by side they line up to make one image, as you can see from the picture above. This was a fantastic STP concert.
-Man I miss how things were from this era. The No. 4 album really did reinvigorate the awful rock ‘n roll scene of the late 90’s.
Shangri-La Di Da EraNotes About the Shangri-La Era Set
-From a sales perspective, I still contend that one of the biggest mistakes STP’s management ever made was pushing Days of the Week as this albums launch track. This is a very strong album that was highly misrepresented by that track as an identifier for the new release
-I’ve included the Revolution single here as well. I love it when we get additional STP material, and this has become my favorite cover that the band has done.
-I’ve got a few Shangri Era shows on CD as well, although this era’s tour was very disappointing as STP barely played tracks from the album at the time.
Thank You, Greatest Hits EraNotes About the Thank You Era Set
-STP had only one official Greatest Hits release so far, but there are several albums that have Greatest Hits compilations on them. I’ve included those here
-I remember first hearing AITSTYW and man, was it a great track to lift my spirits during the otherwise negative STP period that this album was released. This was essentially released as a break-up album for the band at the time! All In The Suit was a great, rockin’ surprise, as was the way-too-late 1st STP DVD release that came with the deluxe edition.
Stone Temple Pilots, Revival EraNotes About the Stone Temple Pilots Era Set
-I’ve got both the Target Exclusive and Best Buy Digipaks here
-We’re already having discussions about the band’s current tour setlist. I hope that STP decides to play smaller venues that draw their actual fan base as opposed to the radio fan base who goes to a concert on an otherwise boring Thursday night or whatnot. If that happens, then maybe we’ll hear some more Shangri or STP album cuts live.
Demos & OuttakesNotes About the Demos & Outtakes
-Like the No. 4 Era House of Blues discs above, these are both CD’s of my own design. The old black and white photo of a very young Mighty Joe Young felt right for this disc, but the very colorful amalgamation of No. 4 and Shangri-La art really worked for the Outtakes disc. I hope you guys like the design! I’m glad I got this one printed and ready to go, because I lost these designs a while back when I had some computer problems, but I’m really pleased with them – especially the outtakes disc.
Featuring STPNotes About my Featuring STP Set
-The Crow. Man, what a great soundtrack this was. And Big Empty was such a strong track!
-The Q101 Live disc has the acoustic ISL track on it. It was a radio exclusive to the Chicago area. Don’t fret however! I’m pretty sure that the same track is featured on about a thousand different radio station discs such as this one from around the same era. Actually, I think most of the disc is the same, but it just has different artwork on it depending on where you lived and what station sponsored it.
-The cut of Wonderful from the FVT disc is probably the best Shangri era live track we’ve got from that otherwise dismal tour.
STP Radio PromosNotes About the STP Radio Promos
-There are a ton of these things out there. Westwood One radio, Up Close and Personal Shows, etc.
-It’s really hard to identify what’s worth having, and what’s lame. Some of these discs are simply spins of the STP catalogue, while others have cool interviews, or the occasional live track.
Weiland Solo SetNotes About the Solo Weiland Set
-Another boot of my own design. I called it “Andy Warholism”, which felt appropriate considering the wide breadth of material that Weiland has worked on. It was nice putting this compilation together because it saved my the trouble of lugging all of the different discs around that the guy has performed on. It also includes the 12BB outtakes as well
Featuring WeilandNotes about this set:
-lots of random discs here. I put most of the relevant tracks on the Andy Warholisms disc that I mentioned above
STP’s Side ProjectsNotes About the STP Side Projects Set
-As you can tell, I fully embraced Velvet Revolver.
-The Dual Disc of Contraband sounds terrific – everyone should go find it
-My God, is Libertad a completely under rated, and under sold album! She Builds, and Mary, Mary are amazing!
-The boot in the lower left is actually a silver disc bootleg! Can you believe that I found one in the last ten years?!?
- The disc on the lower right is a great copy of the Chicago Riv show, another disc of my own making, as is the El Ray disc on the top row.
-The paper pack, 2nd row on the right is another creation of mine. I compiled all of the VR bonus stuff into what equates to be a third VR album. It’s only missing the Libertad era stuff (like Psycho Killer, which I’ve got on the She Builds single pictured), but it’s a great mini album. It’s got: Money | Set Me Free (Hulk Mix) | Negative Creep | Surrender | No More, No More | Come On, Come In on it. I plan on remaking it at some point to include the Libertad era material as well. It’ll practically be a full album at that point, which is cool.
