Guesses at first week sales & charts
« on: March 12, 2018, 05:17:46 PM »
Lets have a simple game.

Guess the first week US sales & Billboard 200 chart position.

For those that don't know, the Billboard top 200 is now made up of sales + streaming, so you might sell the most physical copies out of anyone in a week, but not be no.1 on the Billboard top 200. There is a seperate chart for physical sales, feel free to guess the chart position for both.

My guess is 35,000 Sales + Streaming. 34,000 physical, 1000 streaming.

No.11 Billboard 200.

No.2 Physical Sales

The week it charts you can follow its progress here:

http://hitsdailydouble.com/

The Hits Top 50 Chart is sales + streaming, the Building Album Sales Chart is a chart for who sold the most physical copies.

That seems high to me on physical copies.  Is that because you're assuming most STP fans still buy albums and because of that the numbers will be higher than other more modern bands where no one is buying physical albums?

The free album with a ticket on the little run of shows they're doing right now will probably contribute some, but the shows are pretty small. If High Rise, even though it was an EP, and that had Chester sold 12,000 physical copies first week, I wouldn't expect this album to top that. STP without Scott or any new massive hit to establish a new singer is a commercial non factor, and album sales are down in general now anyways.

STP Shows: 5/1/08, 6/24/08, 12/31/08, 7/1/09, 5/25/10, 6/5/10, 10/29/10, 9/22/12, 5/30/13, 9/1/13
Velvet Revolver Shows: 7/22/06, 9/15/07
Scott Weiland Shows: 12/14/08, 12/8/11

With no other major releases from mainstream artists I say no.1 billboard 200 with 30000 copies sold.

Precisely.

Incidentally, this is currently the best selling CD on Amazon.com that comes out next week. And the second best selling CD that has a release date at any point in the future.

I think it will easily beat High Rise, this has gotten a LOT more interest from the press.

I hope you're right Pingfah, hopefully those numbers are a good sign that it'll beat High Rise, which was an EP.

High Rise seemed to have more promotion though. They did a couple of late night TV performances and way more interviews from what I recall. Out of Time also charted higher than Meadow I think.

Yeah you are right about that, there's no hit single, OOT was no.1 mainstream, Meadow only managed no.5 I think, and didn't appear on the alternative chart at all.

Still, there just seems to be more buzz about this album, and the reviews so far are looking really good.

Call me an optimist but I’m thinking:

Physical sales: #1
Billboard 200: #3
Total sales: 32000

And I find that in general EPs sell much less than LPs.  But we’ll see.

I think at this point in STP’s lifespan, album sales don’t matter that much.  They’re basically going to be an excuse to tour

They could actually have a good charting number with sales numbers that look real bad on paper, but to be honest as long as the charting number is good they can push that for marketing purposes because whether the album sells 10,000 or 30,000 copies they aren't making much money off it regardless. It's mainly a vehicle to promote a tour. Music industry's in a weird spot right now.

Snoop Dogg is their only credible opposition in new releases, so yeah, they could get a top 5 position with only 30,000 copies. I'd say Black Panther and Greatest Showman are bigger threats than Snoop, and those have both been out for weeks.

The concert ticket/album combo might boost up the album sales a bit. I'm thinking somewhere around 35 - 50k, but people just don't buy albums anymore. Many reasons for that, internet, mediocre releases (especially in rock music) just the overall state of rock has been unispiring ..

50,000 would be massive. Bear in mind their last album with Scott only managed 62,000 and that was 8 years ago.

Does anyone know why the vinyl release date is May 25th? Was that how the first s/t was released in 2010? I would have opted for vinyl, but I'm going to get the CD at Best Buy for the extra tracks. Just thought it was kind of odd that the vinyl has a separate release date.
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..
