very unexpected! The verse is almost progy. Not sure how I feel about Jeff on this tune. But he does a decent job. It's pretty cool. We'll see how it grows on me.

Wow, I feel this sounds nothing like STP, stylistically.

Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing...I'm not in love with it though...not yet anyway.

Upon first listen, I absolutely love the song, and how about that artwork? Also amazing!

I'm very glad to hear a new STP song that I actually like, which has not happened in years. I didn't love Blaster, the self-titled album, or the musical direction they went in with Chester. This song is very enjoyable though.

Its a rocker :) sounds like Audioslave. C+ its solid although only parts of the song jump out at me. Im betting live its tha tits tbough cause of the stadium rock riff and loud drums. I like it

Robert said in that Rolling Stone link he had been holding that song in his pocket for years.  Quite possibly written during that era.

Gutt throwing out the Oh Yeah's around 2.50 def has a Scott vibe.

Heavy! Big time AOA vibes.

First the negative - Have to say in this one Gutt has much more of the generic rock guy voice than he did in Meadow, where he had a cleaner tone with a much more creative melody. Stylistically, I definitely prefer the debut to the follow-up.

On the positive side, interesting work by Kretz on this one, and the boys sound inspired and energetic all around. Not my favorite track, but still excited to hear more.
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

Not a big fan of this one or Meadow. Both sound generic.

Sadly, I am just imagining how the song would sound with Scott singing. Agreed on generic unfortunately, and that was my biggest worry about Gutt. It's good though and better than Meadow.

Reading an article on Blabbermouth it said:

The band does just that on "Stone Temple Pilots". The first single "Meadow" (lyric video below) and "Never Enough" channel the gritty guitars and swaggering rhythms that STP perfected on "Core" (1992), "Purple" (1994), and "No. 4" (1999). "Roll Me Under" (available for streaming below) glides along a nimble bass line before slamming into the chorus, where Gutt's baritone digs in.

We haven't been exposed to "Never Enough" yet, have we?

“Hold me under. The water running over.”

When Jeff sings the word "water" his voice cracks a bit. It seems on purpose, but I can't help but chuckle a bit. Seems almost Our Lady Peace-like. It had me thinking of "Superman's Dead."
