The man can sing, the band still got it. Excited about the future, but I know it will be hard to digest when we hear them playing the old ones.
Seems like you left me when you broke down

The vocals are an unexpected direction, kinda sounds like Josh Todd.

I heard a mix of Josh Todd and Raine Maida personally.

I dig it. I havn't heard the Gutt aside from the X-Factor clips recently and the H&H cover during his Dry Cell days, which was ages ago.

I'll support them. I'm happy that they are back making music. Let's see where we go from here...
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

Anyone play Madden '03 and remember the Dry Cell song on the soundtrack? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ8CXG7Y4rw

Needless to say, I think this is a step up. Song has been stuck in my head all morning.
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

As quoted by Rolling Stone, "The new effort, as yet untitled, was produced by the band members themselves and is currently being mixed by Failure's Ken Andrews for a spring 2018 release."

This is fucking awesome, considering Failure is one of my favorite bands.
I also dig the new single! They also seem aware that this song is the "single" of the album due to its nature, just by reading that article.

Holy shit!

You and me both!  This is awesome news!

In other Failure news, I heard they have a new album coming out next year.

Awesome news about Failure. Glad they're back for good.

And while I would have loved for them to bring Brendan into the fold, Ken Andrews is a great asset.

I love it.  Like *really* love it, which is surprising, because I was prepared to spit bile at it.  Gutt's voice fits really well, and has more in common with Scott than Chester.  I can imagine him doing the catalog justice live, and did track down that low quality rehearsal of Down - dude pretty much nailed it.  There's a whole stage presence piece that's missing (in the context of STP onstage), not to mention an entire album to judge later, but I have gone from a modest passing interest to very excited to hear more of new STP.  There may be life in the band yet!

I've just spun it twice, on my phone, wanna hear it on a better quality system but it's sounds good, catchy tune.

Also glad that artwork is just for the single, not really feeling as album cover like those even matter anymore ha

I'm feeling it.

The song seems like a hybrid of Hickory Dichotomy and Black Heart, along with more of the classic STP sound.

Jeff's got the goods. Looking forward to hearing more.

Anyone wanna take a stab at the lyrics?

They sound quite hard to decipher, even when listening on headphones.
I felt sure I heard “we got cock in our eyes” in the chorus just now but hoping I’m mistaken, not sure if I’m ready for STP to take that route lyrically.
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

Very catchy tune. Sonically, it sounds much better than the Self Titled and High Rise.

I'm actually very curious where all of those people are who said STP should be ashamed to continue playing music and that they were insulting Scott by moving forward and calling themselves STP. I'm sure those same people who said they were going to discontinue listening to the band are now here commenting, keeping up with the news, and did not hesitate listening to the new single.

Okay, here's my take. A few things I can't figure out:

Rise and shine, Clementine
There’s just something about you
Do you think you can dance
Cause I’m willing to say, fade away
And right on
Sing a song, make it long (?)
Cause it’s nothing without you
All I need is a chance and I’m willing to play
Another day, and right on, on and on

And we’re all
Yeah we’re all just killing time and having fun
Here in the sun

When there’s nowhere to hide
Yeah we’re gonna sip on (?)
As we drink from the fire
That was burning in the meadow
With luck in our eyes
And the ? of our souls
We can drink from the fire
That was burning in the meadow

You’ll be mine, Clementine
Cause I can’t live without you
I got something to say
But you’ve already made, made your way
So right on
When you’re gone, here’s a song
I’ll be thinking about you
I’ll remember your ways
And the ? that you gave, gave away
So right on, on and on

And we’re all
Yeah we’re all just killing time and having fun
Here in the sun

When there’s nowhere to hide
Yeah we’re gonna sip on (?)
As we drink from the fire
That was burning in the meadow
With luck in our eyes
And the ? of our souls
We can drink from the fire
That was burning in the meadow

I gave you all, you gave another
I hold the wheel, you light the flame

(solo)

When there’s nowhere to hide
Yeah we’re gonna sip on (?)
As we drink from the fire
That was burning in the meadow
With luck in our eyes
And the ? of our souls
We can drink from the fire
That was burning in the meadow

I think the biggest hitch with them going on as 'STP' and insulting Scott was because Scott was still alive during that time.  Now that he isn't, I think its easier to mentally start fresh and push the Deleos/Kretz in a positive direction.

Right, but there a lot of people out there criticizing the band still for not starting fresh entirely. I have read comments on Rolling Stone, Billboard and Yahoo that bash the band for not only continuing under the STP name but for also not playing entirely new songs. My take is that these guys shouldn't have to flush their careers down the toilet because of Scott's demons. Their careers are heavily based around their hits and they have every right to play the songs they wrote with whomever they please, especially now that Scott is gone. My comment has to do more with the fact that the search for a new singer 2 months AFTER Scott's death rubbed people the wrong way and those people (many fans on this website) said they were done with STP entirely. My view is that those same people are probably very excited about the new prospects as they are now emerging.

Not too bad. Definitely still feels STP, late era anyway. Hopefully they play it a little less safe with a couple songs on the full length album. Not real thrilled about how the drums sound on this track, but that's about the only real complaint I've got.
