Chesterless Concert and thoughts
« on: October 29, 2017, 04:44:45 PM »
https://www.yahoo.com/music/concert-review-linkin-park-friends-152730100.html

After reading this it brought back memories of a small discussion we had on here months and months ago about what STP should do to honor Scott.  There never was a show like this for him. I remember floating around the idea of an open mic with a spotlight on it and just letting the audience sing the tunes much like LP did on a few tunes in this case.  I think it would have been nice for STP to do a show like this where different people come out to each sing a tune or two.

Instead of wasting their time on the internet singer search, a cool idea would have been to do something like LP did in mini-tour form. In every city on the tour allow members of the local music community who were heavily inspired by STP to audition (via the net) to sing a specific song or two on the setlist. Any songs they couldn't fill they could bring out a celebrity performer or just do the spotlight on the empty mic. It would be a nice tribute and would also somewhat function as a passing of the rock n' roll torch to up and coming artists. It would certainly help these up and comers in their respective scenes gain some needed exposure and perhaps increase the people in their communities' awareness of who they are.

Anyway, all just thoughts that this LP article brought out.

I don't mind that they never played a tribute show, and I can imagine a million different reasons why it's perfectly justifiable they didn't. Hell, Chris hasn't had a show like this either, just individual bands paying tribute at their own shows  (which not many besides Chris did for Scott, BTW)

But what I would like to see going forward (if they ever start touring again) is to play Plush every night just as you suggested with a spotlight on the mic-stand and with just the audience singing.

I really appreciated Chris paying tribute live to Scott since not many big names did. So sad that they're now both gone.

Yeah, some times they've done guest vocalists and sometimes they just had a spotlight on the mic while the audience sang.

I watched the show. I know the guests weren’t always A list, but there was a moment in which they showed U2 dedicating a song to Chester and Metallica and even Paul McCartney talking about Chester. That was too-notch.
It got me thinking about another thread that basically implied that Scott must have turned off many people/peers over the years.

On a side note, I wasn’t expecting STP to make a live appearance but it was surprising to not be included there at all.

I didn't even think about the fact that STP should have been there at the show.  Chester played with them, what? like 1.5 years before he went?  They should have been there playing a song along with LP

Those last two posts do make great points....

1. Yeah, you're right; where the fuck were the STP guys? You'd think there would be SOMETHING from them. Even a pre-recorded speech.

2. Yes, maybe you're right... Perhaps Scott did burn too many bridges to have enough people want to come together to do something like this for him. Which, in my opinion, makes circumstances surrounding his passing all the more heart breaking.

Which would lead to the question.... Why weren't they asked?

Certainly possible the LP guys hold some sort of resentment towards them for taking Chester away from them for awhile. Also, Chester made no bones about the fact that this was his childhood dream, so I wonder if there was some jealousy there. I know he had that other side project, Dead by Sunrise, were any of those guys invited?

All that aside, I watched a good chunk of the show being that LP was a significant part of my childhood around the time Hybrid Theory and Meteora came out, and it was really moving. They had some decent names show up for performances, not to mention video tributes from Metallica and Paul fuckin McCartney. It'll be interesting to see where they take things going forward, or if they choose not to.

When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

This thought certainly crossed my mind, but still they were celebrating the man's life.

Yes, some of those guys were there. Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh played "One Step Closer" with Jon Davis of Korn.
