Sadly, this partially explains it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZC_-zeWYMYo

I watched this over the weekend.
Heavy.

He goes on to say that at the beginning of making the most recent LP album, he was a mess. I suppose that's late 2015 / early 2016.
Clearly, he's had battles for years, but I wonder if/how the STP split and/or Scott death may have impacted Chester. As we know, it was a lifelong dream to front STP, only to have to withdraw from it and see Scott die only a couple months after.

I just wonder.

I've been struggling with how STPs decision to fire Scott played into both Scott and Chester's demise.  What if STP had just went on hiatus, what if Chester never joined STP.  Does this change the outcomes?  The injection of Chester into STP had to of wounded Scott at the time.  Sorta like finding out your buddy is f'ing your girlfriend.  And the pro Scott STP fans had to have wounded Chester.  Sorta like having the family reject you when you were just trying to help.

I wonder if the Deleo's decision to fire Scott and replace him with Chester lead to the demise of both???

Just thinking out loud here.  A lot of what if's and wonders.......

Well freaking said. This is the first time that I've posted in awhile, but I just had to chime in and say that the fans certainly had the potential to negatively impact Scott's and Chester's life towards both their ends. The past is in the past and we need to move on from a sad reality, but it makes you wonder how truly destructive celebrity fame can be...

What happened with Scott and Chester with STP in 2013-2015 had no effect IMO on their lives ending.

Chris Cornell was still with Soundgarden, and he killed himself.  If STP hadn't fired Scott, he easily could have died on a tour bus on an STP tour.  If Chester had never sang for STP, he still would have been dealing with the loss of a close friend who killed himself in 2016, and also Chris Cornell's sucide (which is said to have helped push him over the edge).  Ultimately these were still guys who dealt with depression and drug addiction/alcoholism, regardless of what band they were in/job they had.  They could have been mechanics or car salesmen and met the same end.

When Scott died, I remember Chester tweeted "Fuck".
I'm sure he was saddened about the news, as we all were, but I also wonder if there was a second significance in that tweet.  Perhaps a regretful reaction as in "I left STP cuz maybe there was a chance at reconciliation with Scott and now he's gone and I've left a great opportunity."

Again, all conjecture but while we're being honest about the topic, just thinking out loud.

If Chester had stayed with STP, do you think fans would have embraced him more with Scott gone?

No effect? Hmm...we'll agree to disagree but there's a good chance that the negative external factors that were band-related certainly didn't help either of them.   Maybe they both would have circummed to the same fate but the band drama and fans possibly hastened it. STP camp specifically for being blind loyalists of Scott. I was one of them.

Weiland was fired probably because the band was always giving him the last straw.  IMO it could have been very possible for him to be back into the band some few years later if he cleaned up his act.  But whatever happened was his choice.

But always remember that any major decision you make in a group that requires collective work will have a profound effect on the members. Promises broken hurt relationships.  Not delivering what was agreed upon hurts relationships.  Drugs put you in a different light.  So does fame.

I don't think this speculation is particularly constructive. These guys suffered from clinical depression. Chester may have had some setbacks in his personal life, but he also had everything to live for, a huge family, a massively successful career.

Neither of them comitted suicide specifically because of anything that happened in their lives, they committed suicide because they were clinically depressed. It's nobody's fault, there's nobody to blame.

I'm certainly not blaming, nor diminishing their demons. It was just thought provoking. Clearly there were other factors at play in both their lives. I just wonder how (if at all) that may have negatively impacted their spiral.

There's no immediate or final influence other than their own minds but you can't ignore some external influences.  LP was getting a LOT of hell from old school fans who were disappointed with yet another album that progressed even further from their original sound.  (Even though what I've heard I'd consider decent)  It even got to the point where Chester called out the fanbase on Twitter and had to be put back in line by Corey Taylor.

There were also reports that fans were throwing shit at them on stage when they'd go into their new singles at recent shows.

I'm sure they all learn to grow thicker skin being in the spotlight, but can't tell me feeling rejection from fans doesn't create some sort of emotional effect.

This one has been the hardest to process out of all of them. I was preparing myself for Scott. While the death of Chris Cornell shocked me, I was a casual Soundgarden and Audioslave fan. While sad, I was ok.  This one just....Hurt. I have seen LP several times, and I met several people through the Linkin Park Underground fan club that my one close friend was an admin for. Just knowing that I met so many people because of Chester and LP....And now it's just gone. Just like that. Still struggling. I've been listening to the song 'One More Light' every night before I go to bed since it happened. My world stood still for a moment. Shocked and devastated.

Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..

That song is heavy. The Kimmel performance, too.

The Kimmel performance choked me up watching Chester sing it for Chris. Now that Chester is gone, that took it to another level.
