STT problem
« on: October 14, 2016, 05:03:57 PM »
"Sex Type Thing" is a really huge song, no questions, but there's one thing that a bit spoils my pleasure of listening to it.
The evident similarity of "STT" riff  to Danzig - "Snakes of Christ" riff (and Dean DeLeo admitted the influence of "In The Light" Led Zeppelin).

For excuse - this riff in general is very popular: I think roots of this riiff go back in 1960s, to Pink Floyd's "Lucifer Sam". So Danzig ripped off that riff too  ;D

And, by the way, Metallica in 1996 took this riff too, in the song "Thorn Within".  ;D ;D   (but made it more complicated and interesting)

Don't forget Ozzy's "No More Tears". That style of descending riff has existed for a while, I just feel like the Deleos put their own unique twist on it and the speed specifically set it apart.

Funny you guys should talk about this cause when I was an angsty teen and would blast STT my mom thought that riff was directly stolen from "The Best Is Yet To Come" by Frank Sinatra.
