Red Hot Chili Peppers full album "The Getaway" streaming on Spotify

Check Spotify if you want to hear it for free.  I've heard about half the album.  It's aight.  Pleasant enough but kinda monotone like their last record.  Occasionally they bust into their typical funk stuff, but it sounds like they are just looking through their usual playbook.

Listened to it last night. My first impression was an overall positive one. It did feel "tamer" than their usual stuff but had some really nice melodies and grooves. I will have to give it a few more listens.

Their new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is good, but he doesn't seem to have the chops (or preference?) to play guitar solos.  The ones I have heard that might be solos are just a little riff that is repeated about 4 measures, then another riff for another 4 measures.  Anything more complicated is masked under large amounts of reverb, overdubbing, and effects.  Nothing like the stuff that Slovak/Navarro/Frusciante pulled off.  Klinghoffer is a really good drummer though, he played drums on a bunch of Frusciante's solo stuff.

agreed, it's alright overall. go robot is fantastic, but nothing else really struck me as great. there are a few shows where josh actually let loose, he can really solo well, and very fast, it just seems like he doesn't ever want to.

Their best album since By The Way. Listen to it a few times, it'll grow on you.

Best tracks: The Getaway, The Longest Wave, Dreams of Samurai (last track).

This one is in league with the band's best to be honest. Love what Danger Mouse did to their sound. Like a more atmospheric, psychedelic sequel to By The Way.

I love the new direction they've gone in. They've been pretty stagnant with their sound on the last couple of records, but songs like "Sick Love" and "Go Robot" have such a different vibe. And "Dark Necessities" is the perfect mix of their new direction mixed with the classic Chili Peppers sound. "Encore" is probably my favorite from the record at the moment. Beautiful melody by Kiedis, who is never a highlight for me when it comes to the Chilis.

Great album. I've listened to the entire album several times without getting tired of it.

I like Danger Mouse and what he brings out of bands. You're not going to get a typical-sounding release when he's involved. And "The Getaway" is no different. I dig it. It's not all gold, but there's a lot I do like on the album.

I'm just not so sure the average fan appreciates it. You're not really getting any of that high-energy funk on this album. So when you factor that with Josh being a new(ish) guy, I can totally see the fans begging for John to come back before long...if they aren't already.

This album is by far the worst I have heard from them. It is just background music not as funk oriented as in the past. I hope Chad works more with Chickenfoot cause right now they are much edgier than RHCP. Just my opinion.
