If the DeLeos and Kretz were to form a supergroup...
« on: March 08, 2016, 11:45:57 AM »
...who would you want to hear them play with?

I'd like to hear them work with Pete Loeffler of Chevelle, Dexter Holland of The Offspring, Scott Lucas of Local H, Brett Scallions of Fuel, Chino Moreno of Deftones, or that guy from Avenged Sevenfold.

Not too many rock singers out there anymore I really care about.

Yeah, yeah, the guy from Avenged Sevenfold, right. Cmon Andrew...

The Doors mentioned once that they were considering of moving on with a female singer. I believe STP should do the same and form a supergroup with either Jenny Lewis or Shirley Manson fronting the band.

Seems like you left me when you broke down

I think the supergroup idea is played out and rarely does it ever truly deliver on the promise of actually being a "super"-band. In my opinion, it usually winds up being "a lot of people you know, in a pretty average sounding group". So, if STP were to take that route, I'd probably still check out any new stuff they did but I just feel like that'd be in horrible taste if they did that at this point.

Steven Tyler. Self titled was very Aerosmith sounding. Steven is tired of playing with Joe, so why not?

Why Jenny Lewis?  That is one of the last people I would consider, unless you are implying only original material.  If so, that would be pretty neat actually.  If you expect her to sing some STP tunes.....i dunno.

Exactly. We're talking about a supergroup with a famous lead singer and focusing on new material. If its meant to stay as STP, Id rather have them stay with someone as good as Chester with the old songs.

Because he's awful, and hasn't written a good song in 25 years?

... or that guy from Avenged Sevenfold.

I actually do dig them (A7X) and I like Shadows' voice, but if there was ever a "replacing" situation, he'd be better suited for VR over STP. I liked his contribution to the Slash album.

But it wouldn't happen anyway, he's got a successful thing going.

I'd love to see them work with Mark Lanegan, though that will probably never happen. And of course teaming up with Richard for another AoA record would be amazing. OP mentions Scallions, but I think he'd be better suited to front STP than a supergroup.

Someone mentioned Steven Tyler... But I feel like in that scenerio it would be less like a supergroup, and more like them being Tyler's backing band. Like when the Deleos played with him on American Idol.

But there really isn't much of a point in all three of them forming a super-group together. Having them go on with one singer as STP, and then going on with another singer as a side-project just seems odd. Considering the three of them will keep STP going together, it may interesting to see them as individuals branch out into supergroups and side-projects.

I think Robert joining Jane's Addiction for a new album might be interesting.

Oh god, can you see Robert putting up with Farrell?

Farrell is even more of an ego-maniac than Weiland. Weiland at least recognized and acknowledged his problems, to some degree.

I definitely would like to see a new Jane's album, but that's a whole other can of worms.

Two names I'd like to see play with the STP guys, Anthony Kiedis and Brent Smith(shinedown).

I always love the lyrical journey's Anthony can take you on with a song... and with Brent, the dude can simply whale out some vocals...

Robert's the only guy I can think of who could maybe pull another good album out of them not named Eric Avery.

Perry is an egomaniac, but he has been clean for a long time.

Disagree 100%.

Not the fact that Robert can't pull a great record out of them, but Strays and Great Escape... were both good records, especially the latter. It's not 1990 Janes, but of course it's not...

Chris Robinson or Josh Todd
