Ed from Live would be interesting also he had a fallout with Live but seemed to recapture his magic after they parted ways. Would be an interesting pairing to the least.

Nein! I cannot stand his voice...Out of alt. rock 90s singers his voice was the least appealing to me(and scott's was the most appealing) I know it's just my insignificant opinion but I like to express it anyway. ;)

Ed had a decent voice for their music in the early 90s but now he is a weird, super-religious, Christian music guy. No way he would ever get along in STP.

Ed is an amazing singer, but he doesn't fit STP. Plus, his ego is too big to sing a set full of mostly Scott songs.

Brett fits STP stylistically much better than any other "proven" talent out there. I think a lot more STP fans would be willing to get behind him than they did with Chester because of this. But there's a lot of question marks surrounding his availability because of Fuel. I wouldn't be surprised if STP has already vetted this whole scenario and decided to go with the singer search instead.

* Perhaps Brett was one of the people the DeLeos mentioned having tried out in LA -- Brett's twitter does say he lives in LA: https://twitter.com/notthefakebrett

(Maybe someone bolder than I can tweet him and ask if he's had any contact with the DeLeos about this? Please report back if you do!)

That's a very interesting point... I would be a little surprised to see an "established" front man who has their own band, be ok with singing a set list of someone else's lyrics each night.

I said Ed from live would be interesting. Although I have heard he is an ego maniac. I also believe what was wrong with Chestp was there weren't enough songs of Chesters for him to shine doing a set list of all old songs gets tiring for the band and the fans. If they do a new album they need to perform at least 6-7 new songs mixed in with the classics and a couple of old songs not often performed. I still believe Scott from the Exies or Brett from Fuel would be great with STP over anyone else.

While we're on the leftover 90's kick, I'd sooner welcome Vinnie Dombroski from Sponge or Royston Langdon of Spacehog over Brett or Ed.

As long as we're throwing names out there, the singer of Candlebox is pretty underrated.

Seriously though, a great pairing in my opinion, though most unlikely to ever happen.
He's not a superstar but has plenty of experience under his belt and definitely the chops, the voice and a good sense of melody. J. Loren of HURT. His lyrics have substance to boot.

I'd have a hard time believing the fellas in STP are going down that route again.
There was a radio interview recently in which the host dove into some questions with regard to Tiny Music and other sessions and Brendan's name came up. I wish he would have followed up with the question of why they've decided to not work with him anymore. I mean, we all know why. But it'd be interesting to hear it from them.

Kevin Martin... I like what he did with The Gracious Few, but I don't know if he has the range.

As far as Ed... Besides any ego issues, there's the simple fact that all he's done since like 2003 is Christian rock. I don't imagine STP's going that route. If we could magically have Ed circa 99, then that would be near perfect. But as things are he wouldn't work at all.
Grab the hate and drown it out...

Is it because of the Don Was fiasco during the self titled sessions?

There's never been any official word from what I can recall. I mean, if asked, they'd probably use a "schedule/availability" reason, but the theory (here) is Brendan is expensive and it's most definitely more cost effective to record at Robert's & Eric's studios.
