What's everyone's thoughts on this guy?? He sings this song at least as good as Chester I think and since the door is now open for literally anyone he's in with a shot -

Not bad he sounds pretty good. Surprisingly. But he is out of shape as am I. I think that will be a big problem for the band. I can sing but those are pretty big shoes to fill.

While this hurts the legacy even more to use the name and could turn them into a complete joke, I'm happy they're doing it because my guess is they'd retire to session/guest work and probably never record together again if they didn't carry on with the STP name.  With Scott dead, I still want to see some new music from STP members, and they are all that is left now.  I just wish they'd focus on new music, regardless of what they call it.

STP Shows: 5/1/08, 6/24/08, 12/31/08, 7/1/09, 5/25/10, 6/5/10, 10/29/10, 9/22/12, 5/30/13, 9/1/13
Velvet Revolver Shows: 7/22/06, 9/15/07
Scott Weiland Shows: 12/14/08, 12/8/11

This guy does a good job covering this song. I'm going to see if I can find more vids of him.

I honestly don't think this will hurt their legacy as a band. To the general public, they are and always will be, the band that made Core and Purple. Nothing Scott or the DeLeo's did in the reunion seemed to have any affect on public perception of the band.

5 years later, does anyone outside this site even remember S/T? Someone earlier commented that some people seem to have no idea Scott was ever fired and Chester ever joined the group.

The shame is that they never did anything to ADD to the legacy. The band never reached its full potential, and that is a shame. But whatever the band does next, five years from then it will probably be forgotten like SLDD, AoA, and S/T.

In the long term, they will always be the band that did Core and Purple.

My $.02 on this situation. It's bitter sweet. Knowing we won't ever have another Scott w/ STP album sucks. I have a lot of respect for Dean, Robert & Eric. They have made the choice to carry on the name & find a new singer. They went past all toleration of Scott's situation. Heck, they probably would've reunited once again in late '16 or early '17 if they thought Scott had even the slightest ability left to sing the catalogue.

I don't believe they are disrespecting Scott's legacy, they just want to make music in the best possible way.....And that's with the STP name. I don't have the right to tell them to retire the name and like was mentioned earlier, this should bring royalties to Scott's children (if the lawsuit was settled as so).

I wish them the best & hope it works out. I would love to hear another STRONG STP album.

I agree.

It's crazy, but I think a bands legacy is 95% of what your radio stations play... that is mainly Core and Purple in our case here as STP fans. Repeating what has kinda been said this afternoon... we are a small group here in the grand scheme of this story... We love this material to the point we look up the "ins and outs" of this band and the members involved.

Even from my own perspective, I know I'm doing this with other bands over the years too. I mean I want to know everything about STP and it's guys, that's why I'm here... but when it comes to other bands who have been around 20 or 30 years and still get played on radio, I could miss news about a singer change that happened or the original guitar player got canned for farting too much on the tour bus a few years ago... something like that. I might just buy a ticket if its in front of me and I want a good time even though I don't know the band members by name, but I at least remember a few songs from them play on radio.

It's a bummer for the die hards who crave the deep cuts and rare things like we want from this band... but to the majority it seems they want to hear the hits. It's what seems to sell arena's...

Been brainstorming ideas, and it's tough since a lot of the best options have gigs.  Why not Nic Cester, the former singer of Jet?  Jet had quite a few major hits in the 2000's like "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", and he has a lot of range.  Jet also broke up about 4 years ago, so he's likely free and would want the job.

Hmmm I'm not sure, although if you click on his YouTube profile it shows him covering some Alice in Chains songs and his range is pretty good.

Here's a guy who can sing 'Lady Picture Show' -
