While this hurts the legacy even more to use the name and could turn them into a complete joke, I'm happy they're doing it because my guess is they'd retire to session/guest work and probably never record together again if they didn't carry on with the STP name. With Scott dead, I still want to see some new music from STP members, and they are all that is left now. I just wish they'd focus on new music, regardless of what they call it.
I honestly don't think this will hurt their legacy as a band. To the general public, they are and always will be, the band that made Core and Purple. Nothing Scott or the DeLeo's did in the reunion seemed to have any affect on public perception of the band.
5 years later, does anyone outside this site even remember S/T? Someone earlier commented that some people seem to have no idea Scott was ever fired and Chester ever joined the group.
The shame is that they never did anything to ADD to the legacy. The band never reached its full potential, and that is a shame. But whatever the band does next, five years from then it will probably be forgotten like SLDD, AoA, and S/T.
In the long term, they will always be the band that did Core and Purple.
