I'm halfway into this, but needed to kinda catch myself... the part about Scott taking the news of his parents is tough. Just the part where the wildabouts were trying to help him out, hugging him.

Heartbreaking piece, but why can't I escape the feeling that every Jamie quote just serves herself/puts down Mary and sounds almost fake?

There's some stuff in there that does add insight to what Scott was going through, but a lot of it just pissed me off about enablers more than anything, and there's certain specific details that didn't really need to be out there, like Scott having hep C.  Also the fact that they didn't mention this kids had their own memorial for Scott (which I reported) and only mentioned that they no showed the funeral is just total bullshit.  Trust me, the kids honored Scott the way they wanted to, and it was beautiful from what I was told.

I had no clue about Scott having Hep C but I'm not surprised.  They should have left that private.

The twisting the nipple of reporter thing felt totally unnecessary too.  It's like, he's dead, what's the point now?

Kind of agree. Everyone who was close to him in the final years says they were taken aback by his death, but every single one of them also say they've known he was mixing heavy drinking with strong prescriptions for a long time. It's like the people around him were in as much denial as he was. The first thing his drinking buddy Tommy did after he died was go to TGI Friday's for shots. That tells you the kind of place he was in.

But at the same time, as I've said again and again, he chose the company he kept and his surroundings. Those around him were either enablers, or people too meek to try and change him. This part really sums it up:

"People think the difficult part of being an addict is that you must crave the drugs all the time," says Dr. Drew Pinsky, who counseled Weiland in his early addiction days. "The more difficult part is what operates under your consciousness that keeps sending you back to the environments, the people and the using. Even when you don't intend it, that's where you end up."

Scott surrounded himself with enablers and pushed everyone who could do anything about it away from him. Unfortunately, I think his bi-polar disorder and paranoia played a key factor in him pushing anyone who would stand up to him away. But the fact that he didn't have a sobriety coach for years is pretty telling that he just didn't care to get help anymore. He gave up the fight, long before last year and Jeremy's death and his parents' diagnoses.

Because the police couldn't prove it was his. If he admits it was, then they could possibly charge him.
Grab the hate and drown it out...

Wow!  Hadn't heard a lot of this.  Sounds like everybody gave up on him too, including himself.  Hate to hear it about his parents.

I'm 40 years old and have some of my favorite musicians/actors pass away and nothing compares to Scott to dying. ive thought of him everyday since December 3rd. Is that ok or just weird to feel that way about somebody I've never met?
