Nick Maybury opens up about Scott
« on: January 20, 2016, 07:23:56 PM »
What a class guy Nick Maybury is. Love that guy. Here's a podcast where he talks about it: https://soundcloud.com/guitar-player-magazine/episode-19-nick-maybury

It's a 2 hour podcast where he talks about everything, his whole history of playing etc... for you guitar geeks out there you'll REALLY enjoy this. He's had amazing experiences. The last 20 minutes or so are about the Wildabouts, the day of Scott's death, Scott's health... playing in a band and dealing with the vibe.

Incredible listen. Wow.

I had no idea he had an accent. He seems really nice. Interesting to hear that he wasn't told right away.

Pretty heartbreaking hearing Nick recall trying to get through to Scott, and basically being told that he'd already given up on himself. :(

Thanks JugeSTP for sharing that interview.

Yep, that was the bit that really got me. That Nick would decide to go to meetings for those affected by significant others' substance abuse (we call it AlAnon in the UK) speaks a lot both to him as a person and also to what was going on. He really comes off as a great guy and it's tough to hear him say that the last few shows were strong, he loved playing with Joey and everything was geared up for a new album in 2016 then a possible STP reunion...

Nick sounds like a really nice guy. I feel sorry that he kind of got pulled into this.

"I've had a career 20 years, I don't think this will affect that." It's clear Scott was under the impression his actions had no consequences, and sadly he seemed to pull those around him into his denial, too.

It is heartening, however, to hear how nice he was to Nick and the Wildabouts crew. Considering the way he's treated his band mates, fans, and allegedly his family in recent years it's comforting to know he wasn't entirely lost.
Grab the hate and drown it out...

I feel for the kid. He seems like a really sweet guy. I'm sorry he got pulled into that whole scene. I'll always keep an ear out for whatever he's involved in and hope he sees a ton of success.

I don't know Nick super well but I've chatted with him a number of times. What I can tell you is he's a 100% straight up guy. Not a junkie or a enabler. He was a positive, healthy influence on Scott. Dude is a sick guitar player and a total reliable pro. He's very well liked from what I've heard on the music scene. I think he tried to get Scott to shape up. Ultimately Scott didn't give a shit. So what's he supposed to do? If he steps away, they'll just find someone else to take the job. I know everything he said is totally true because he's a honest guy to a fault. Dude stuck around because he LOVED the music, believed in it, and genuinely cared about Scott.

I'm personally glad Nick joined the band. I feel like he was one last lifeline thrown to Scott, which didn't work, but at least he came in after Jeremy died and didn't allow the whole thing to go down in flames. He gave Scott's story its final parting legacy. A lot of those shows were a disaster, but Blaster is a fantastic album that deserved it's just due and Nick gave it every chance with his top notch true to form playing every single show. And sometimes the stars would align, Scott would have a good night, and they'd have a fantastic show.

I've never heard a bad word spoken/written about Nick Maybury. 100% class act, , totally humble guy, and he can shred with the best.

I hope he can find the success that he deserves in the near future. Wish The Wildabouts could have been his big break. That next album would have been a fucking riot and a half. The "what ifs" make Scott's death that much harder to come to terms with.
