They could easily release Only Dying with a different name. I mean, until it is in print and officially released, they aren't tethered to anything.
As far as what they do, I have no idea, but with Scott dead the only thing that makes sense is retiring, a new band, or Chester with STP, or some combination of both. I mean, there is a part of me that thinks the occasional new tune and touring every couple years with Chester isn't all that ludicrous, but the STP guys would need a more permanent gig.
The irony now is that, if they are to continue as a new band, they need a frontman as viable as Scott was when he showed up with VR. That's pretty limiting right there. Maybe Chris Robinson. What is the history with that btw? It sounds familiar as a project, but at 37 I am starting to forget shit. Can someone remind me? Either way, Chris getting back to his more rocking roots with Rob, Dean, and Eric would be pretty awesome.
But at the end of the day, I honestly feel for the guys. I mean, they probably never, truly thought he would die while they were on bad terms. There is part of me that hopes we hear an interview soon that confirms they had at least forgiven each other.
I say that because it would be torture if you fired a guy because of his addictions, a lifelong friend, and then within 2 years of doing that, he dies due to those addictions and you never made amends. If that is how it went down, it will haunt those guys for years, unless they are fooling themselves.
In other words, since they were lifelong buddies of Scott's, whatever brings them peace I am behind.
