Wes is an amazing guitarist.  Sometimes he can get a little too overboard with effects pedals IMO but really is underrated.  I never really understood how Limp suddenly became such a joke on such a level.  So so so many people were into LB sending them to arena status, and then it seemed like overnight it became "the cool thing" to hate on them.  I know Fred D ran his mouth and could act a fool quite a bit but the popularity of that band pulled such a 180.  Anyhoo, a song pops up on shuffle every now and then and I have no problem rocking along in my car.

Back on track, Filter had a another gust of wind in its sails with their last album.  I know a new CD is on the way and a big opportunity to keep that push going.  I can't imagine he'd risk even a piece of his dedication to do an AoA reunion let alone fill in as the new singer of STP.  And the DeLeos & Kretz would be crazy to try and recruit another lead singer with commitment to another band, especially RP in which Filter is his absolute baby.

I could see him guesting on something for them.  Or yes I do remember him saying he wouldn't be against revisiting AoA but I honestly would envision a relationship more similar to Weiland and Art of Anarchy, than of a touring/evolving relationship with the rest of the band.

I think STP can really only save face by just trying to find someone rather unknown, who can do some sort of justice to the STP catalogue, and who is 100% dedicated.  But move forward and create new music, and support it....not a handful of songs which you only embrace one.  But with that should also come the recognition that they're not a big marquee name anymore.  Get to touring with some other reasonably comparable artists and win people back.  Stop going around touring as an unproven group and charging $60+

This band shouldn't expect to be the next Van Halen, it should expect to be the next Live.
Hold me closer.....closer.....let me go!

My STP Concertology:  6/22/01, 10/26/01, 4/21/02, 4/23/02, 5/18/08, 5/26/08, 5/31/08, 8/6/08, 8/8/08, 8/10/08, 7/17/09, 5/18/10, 9/3/10, 9/4/10, 7/25/11, 7/26/11, 9/10/11, 9/1/12, 5/6/18

This is right-on in my opinion, and Live is a good comparison. If they are dead set on keeping STP going with a new singer, this is probably their best bet. Get some slightly younger dude with no attachments who can pull off the Scott material convincingly. It's never gonna be the same without Scott, just like Live isn't the same without Ed, but the dude they got is really good and does Ed's vocals really well. There are singers out there who can do Scott's vocals better than Chester, but none that come with star power. As you explained, maybe that's what they need.

I thought the new(ish) Live album was great, and kicked the ass of the last 3 Ed Kowajadsnfla Live albums.

Shame it only sold about 5 copies.

I agree. And Chris Shinn is great. But that's just it. As you said 5 copies. That won't suffice for Deleos/Kretz.
Nor should it. Live's legacy is not on the level of STP. Though who knows at the rate they're going.

a bonus track ;D

I love this tune. It falls into that category of "how did this song not make the album?".
I feel Patrick was the most melodic he had ever been, up to that point, on this album.
