Your favorite STP guitar solo?

Howdy Friends,

What is your favorite STP guitar solo?

I really love the slide guitar solo in Lounge Fly, especially the live version of the solo.

I absolutely love the solo and outro on ‘Bi Polar Bear’, so much feeling.

Also the solo at the end of ‘Silvergun Superman’ is awesome.

And So I Know.   It is so smooth and has a great pick sweep.  Really stands out genre wise in comparison to the other solos.  Second place might go to Long Way Home's outro solo.

In case anyone didn't know the ending guitar solo in Loungefly was played by Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers.

Impossible to pick just one Dean solo... So here's my favorite from each album:

Core: Sin

Purple: Silvergun Superman

Tiny Music: Seven Caged Tigers

No.4: Heaven & Hotrods

SLDD: Long Way Home (honorable mention to Wonderful, especially the live acoustic version)

S/T: Cinnamon

High Rise: Tomorrow

Talk Show: John

AoA: Father Figure
Grab the hate and drown it out...

Ohhh this is tough.

Not from a super technical point of view or anything but for fitting the course and explaning the right feeling...

Lady Picture Show would probably be my pick. Again, not really anything that shows itself off in the guitar world, but I think it shines insanely bright and it’s just the right touch. I love how on the live version at spring break 97, the solo just sounds so good as dean drops immediately back into the riff. That particular performance showed me the sonic brilliance of this solo.

Second mention will be my all time favorite song big empty. Again not super technical, but that vibe!!!

Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart has one the most unique, understated solos in all of the STP catalogue. It's equal parts playful, manic, menacing, and psychedelic. Completely elevates the song. Quite the feat for as short as it seems.

Thinking about it, S/T actually had its fair share of nice solo’s despite not being that great of an album overall. I think nearly every song on that album featured one whereas on an album like No 4 there are very few guitar solo’s. The Army Of Anyone album was similar with lots of solo’s, I love them all on there but the one on ‘Goodbye’ stands out, the way it shifts direction half way through, love it.

Jeez. Tough question. I also think the Trippin solo, because it is just so original.

It's purposefully not the most fluid, or tuneful solo he has played, but it is highly creative.
