I love all of the clips so far.
I think I will like "First Kiss On Mars" and "Hazy Daze" the most.

Does anyone else think that Scott intentionally sounds like a pig during the "Way, way, way" part of "Fast As I Can" since the song is basically about being drunk?  :D
Can we really find
A lovely magic place we dream of?

My favorite clips are the last two, Maver and First Kiss on Mars.... This album appears to be STP taking an album they made already in SLDD, and making it radio friendly.

I think there should be a law against saying "Green Day" and "Stone Temple Pilots" in the same sentence.

I second that.

The more I listen to the previews, I'm thinking that the "sound" of the album is heavily influenced by each members' side projects. If STP would've stuck togethere back in 2002, their next album at the time would not have sounded this way (from what we can tell by listening to All in the Suit that you Wear.)

I have to agree with you.  I realise the album isn't out yet and I haven't heard enough of all of the new songs to make a real judgement but from what I have heard, I was really hoping they would go in the "All in the suit" direction.  There may very well be moments of that on this new record but we shall see.

I would've liked that, too, but I have no problem with the sound they're going for in their new album.

Well, it's hard to make a call based on 30 seconds, but of the new ones so far I prefer:

* Peacoat should get a ton of airplay, great  - love the "we're always good on the ro-oh-oad" chorus part  :)
* Hazy Daze - unique sound, nice bass line
* Fast As I Can - love the fast tempo and the soaring chorus - awesome highway driving song, I see a speeding ticket in my future   O0
* First Kiss On Mars - I am also a big Billy Joel fan (so shoot me  :P  ), and the very last pop song he ever wrote before "retirement" was Famous Last Words http://http://popup.lala.com/popup/504684676427247360 The way the chorus comes in, and the way Scott segues into the next verse on "Mars", is similar in style/construction.  http://http://searchservice.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=sitesearch.results&type=Music&qry=first%20kiss%20on%20marsI love both tunes - both are upbeat, finger-tapping songs. (no, I'm not saying STP copied anything - just a coincidence in style). And Scott definitely has his Bowie voice here.

Overall I'm optimistic.  8)  The CD isn't as hard as I'd prefer (I'm a Core lover), but it looks to have a lot of radio-friendly hooks to it.  I think radio stations are going to play 3-4 songs deep on it. It's definitely going to sell a good amount of copies relative to any other rock records sold in this environment.

I agree with the album not being as hard rock as I hoped, but I am happy with what I am hearing. Im loving the vast guitar styles on the album

Holy shit, how did I not notice this? Billy Joel is one of my all time favorites and "Famous Last Words" is in my opinion one of the greatest songs ever written and one of my favorites by him. I can totally hear that in "First Kiss On Mars".

For those who dont think this album is as hard as their previous ones, if you havent already, definitely listen to the songs through headphones....made a huge difference for me
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

:D  Good, I'm glad someone else hears it too. I was worried I was loony and waaaaaay over-comparing two of my favorite artists, but it's pretty cool how the two songs have a similar construction.

I'm sure there are a ton of Billy Joel fans here. I mean, "Glass Houses" is a fucking rockin' album and one of the best of the '80s. The dude is my inspiration for songwriting and "New York State of Mind" is my all time favorite song. It always cheers me up and I just picture the Manhattan skyline lit up at night whenever I hear it. And from what I hear, his song "Tomorrow Is Today" (which was originally a suicide note as he did try to kill himself and almost succeeded) from his very first album is what inspired Axl Rose's style of singing. Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCiW161e_YI

Heh, I went a bit off topic. I might as well make a Billy Joel topic lol. But yeah, I hear some of it in "First Kiss On Mars". Looking forward to hearing the whole thing.
