I am little late of posting from the last show of the tour – so here goes…
Walking into MWPP last night who’s tour bus pulls up around 7:45 pm, but the Scott Weiland’s. No sound check!!! No warm up with the band!!! The awesome swagger and confidence. That’s why he is my favorite front man in rock and roll. He rolls into town and owns the night!!!
Scott was very, very strong vocally. He also was remarkably focused. I love the megaphone stuff because it reminds me of punk rock days. Robert was kick ass and Dean tore up the place. Eric was a little up and down last night (it happens). Put all four together and it is lightning in a bottle. Believe me I saw Talk Show in the late 90’s opening for the Foo Fighters at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. You would never have known it was Robert, Dean and Eric on stage back then. The Foo Fighters actually played Trippin during their power house set.
Back to STP… STP is like the Led Zeppelin fix I never got to fully enjoy only becoming a true Led Zeppelin disciple at age 12 in 1979 with the In Through the Out Door album. So riffs like Wick Garden are a pulse life for me.
Best song of the night was Down. They crushed that one. The visuals of nuclear detonations made it even better. There were a lot of military guys in the crowd who probably have done some time in combat zones. Tell me they do not listen to tunes like Down before heading out on patrol. I would rate Down as one of my 10 most memorable concert tunes of all time. Plush was simply outstanding – a wall of sound. Sex Type Thing is always awesome cause a former rugby player – I have worn that dress…
I would have preferred a really slowed down version of Sour Girl last night and more put together Trippin’. Scott should have taken his shirt off for the ladies in the crowd who were all drooling over him. But, all and all it was one hell of a show. I could see STP every night of the week…
With a guy like Scott one never knows what he is going to do next so seeing him anytime is very special. I look forward to a kick ass new album and a tour next summer!!!
