2002

2002, has become one of the most thought of time frames for me when it comes to this band. Some of that we have discussed at times... mainly the album in which the band started working on but obviously everything was put to a stop rather quickly.

But... I’m mostly surprised at the lack of concert footage which has surfaced through the last decade. My question to some of you here who might have a decent bootleg collection, do you have many shows from 2002?

These guys played a good number on concerts through 01-02 and there has to be some decent footage out there somewhere one would think. You guys think there’s any pro shot 2002 stuff somewhere locked away?

It's interesting to think of what that next album would have sounded like, especially since they were opening with Shine On You Crazy Diamond that year. I saw them that year in Gainesville, and it was amazing. I have audio from it, but it's not pro.

Got that show too. My favourite STP show. Sound is good, great setlist and the band were really on fire that night.

Most of the 2002 performances I've hear have been really solid. It's hard to believe they were on course for a serious implosion.

Was 'All In The Suit That You Wear' recorded in 2002? I know it wasn't during the SLDD sessions and was intended for the soundtrack to (I think) Spider-Man?
If that's the sort of direction they were heading in around that time I think a follow up to SLDD around that time would've been great, much much better than S/T ended up being but then we wouldn't have had VR I guess...
I suppose it was all fate...

Just saw from an interview posted in another thread... says it was recorded in may of 2002. Makes it seem like it was done separately, but I guess there’s always room for speculation it could have been part of the “2002 album” beginnings...

Ah okay, good to know the timeline of it. Which interview is that by the way?
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

It's at the very end of that article as they are commenting about the track list for "Thank You". Thanks to Major Metal for posting this interview in the other thread.

Wow! Great interview, thanks for the link!
I find it interesting that in 2003 when Robert was asked if it was the end of STP he said this:

ROBERT: Well, we're putting out a record called Thank You! So, yeah. I'd have to say it is closing the book. Dean and Eric and myself, I think, all feel a sense of sadness, relief, anger, melancholy about it... but to try and go on and accomplish something with this band after we've already peaked is a bit cheesy. There's a cheese factor with guys hitting 40 trying to recapture glory. There's no way to go but out. If you're driving a car and it goes off the road, it's hard to steer that car back on the road. I'm proud to look
back at our career. I feel we've made a valid contribution to music.

Yet in 2017 him and Dean want to continue on as STP... I guess that's a separate topic though.
Nothing matters again, I didn\'t think we\'d last that long

I think it's more of how, after failing commercially with AoA, they were willing to ride that horse one more time during the reunion run. Clearly, the horse was damaged goods, but f it, he could always be put down.

The Miami ones are Youtube sourced I believe. The others are right on the money.
