How about Mike McCready, huh?

Dude has worked with Vedder, Cornell & Staley, Neil Young, Heart, Frampton, among others.
That's quite the resume.

IMO, McCready is the most talented guitarist to come out of the 90s rock scene.
Grab the hate and drown it out...

I love it when he just shuts his eyes and looks straight up, playing a solo. He gets into it more than any other guitarist in the rock scene I reckon.

So ya'll are saying that you think Mike is more creative than Dean. I think they both are very creative, but i like Dean's phrasing more. Let's not forget both STP and Pearl Jam have killer rythm sections, but i would have to say Matt Cameron and Steve Perkins were my two favorite 90's drummers.

More creative? No, more spontaneous maybe. Dean's solos on record are better written and performed, but Mike in concert when he lets it rip is a different animal. Dean doesn't even try to play like that, it's not his style.

I most definitely believe Dean can play like that. I just think he writes his solos more in composition fashion (a beginning, middle and end with specific melodies in mind), so in a live setting, Dean will play them honoring the recording. Mike is more likely to improv his live solos.

Well, Mike gets solo slots. They will extend the solo section to like 20 times the length and he'll just go crazy for 3 or 4 minutes. They are improv by their very nature because the solo was never that long on the record.

And yeah, I agree Dean could play with that sort of feel if that were the sort of thing STP do, but it isn't. He occasionally loosens up in the jam bits between songs, but I have never seen them even attempt a Hendrix style epic guitar solo.

Hey, whatever brings Rock back.  You know though, I always preferred Mad Season over Temple Dog & it brings to light how underrated Mike McCready is, like he laid down really cool stuff.  Who do you guys prefer.  Temple or Mad?  It's a sad shame these guys never knew how special they really were.

Eddie won't do it cuz it's a constant reminder of when STP took the Grammy...that was a great moment in time, like I loved calling my friends going, "Hey, did you hear who won the Grammy of Rock?" and they were like, STFU...good times

Seriously, I wasn't, for myself, comparing Dean and Mike.  I just think when it comes to 90's music, it's always about the singers which they really wouldn't be there if it weren't for the musicians that back them up.  Like, everyone talks Flea all the time but I think Les Claypool is better.  Flea is just more flamboyant, you know so it makes him stand out for the masses.  I think Mike is more blues sound vs Dean while Dean has a southern rock about him, but both are awesome to me.

Love seeing the McCreedy love. That guy does not get enough credit. He is a BEAST live
Dedicated. Disgusting. Disturbing.

I'm just sittin' on this merry-go-round, and the music is too loud..
