Scott Weiland Reborn in 2014Rock 'n' roll has very few true frontmen. You know the guys with gravitationally powerful charisma, powerhouse voices, and indefinable mystique. These gentlemen are too few and far between, and that's why the genre isn't the same as it was in the nineties, the seventies, or the sixties. That's not to say that it can't revert back though. Anything is possible, especially if the youngsters start studying the rule book of Scott Weiland. Now, this is nothing you can get on Amazon or iBooks. It's going to take a little old fashioned listening and watching. However [rock hopefuls], if you pay attention, you'll learn quite a bit.

Weiland stands poised for a crucial year. He just came off of last year's brilliant and badass "Purple at the Core" tour, reinvigorating Stone Temple Pilots classics from Core and Purple with a decidedly fresh fire courtesy of his ever-potent vocals and a tight band of The Wildabouts—guitarist Jeremy Brown, bassist Tommy Black, and drummer Danny Thompson. Weiland undeniably shines on stage he always has. Stone Temple Pilots performances around 2000 and 2001 remain nothing short of legendary. If you were there, you know what we mean. He commanded the stage with the kind of power and panache that idols are really made of. Weiland kept that up in Velvet Revolver though, especially during the Contraband era.

Still, even though 2014 is a new chapter altogether, it continues that kind of genuine rock that he's known for both live and in the studio.

You can hear it in The Beach Boys by way of Queens of the Stone Age stomp of new cuts like "Beach Pop Rock", which Weiland and the boys are playing live lately. The riffs roar with a primal energy, but there's an elegant mysticism from the singer punctuated by his lyrics and inimitable delivery. It could very well be the spiritual successor to Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop, yet there's something decidedly modern about it. Meanwhile, "Way She Moves" channels David Bowie-esque wildness, and "Circles" is a downright beautiful ballad. Whenever this record drops, it's going to make a massive impact on rock 'n' roll, and we need that.

Soon, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts will be rocking audiences across Canada bringing a mixture of timeless Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver hits alongside these jams. There's a lot more on the horizon though, and that's genuinely exciting.

Get ready for Weiland and rock music reborn in 2014.

Though I'm excited to see him making music and hopefully releasing new music soon, these press clippings always sound funny to me.
Boasting about a tour that was lackluster to say the least and the whole this album will make a “massive impact on rock n roll”.
Just a little silly to me.

...thoughts?

You're not alone sklashboombash. ArtistDirect ALWAYS has articles like this that are just way over the top and kinda ridiculous. I love Scott and am excited about this year's potential as well, but anyone who seriously thinks that he's going to lead a "rock and roll rebirth" or whatever is frankly out of their mind

This dude kisses everyone's ass.  I loved the self-titled album, but he called it THE ALBUM OF THE DECADE.

Did Chris Pepper write this?
When STP had a cookout after filming the video for the Core single "Plush," Weiland made jerk chicken that was "spectacular," Dean raves.

I'm pretty sure when No. 4 came out there was a sticker on the album with a quote saying this was the album that will save rock and roll.

If anyone needs some embellishment on the positive side of things it's Scott.  God knows people(around here) like to pour salt in the wounds.

Yes, Scott could use some good press right now, but this guy goes overboard with this comment, which makes the whole thing seem disingenuous.

I wasn't there, but everything I've read and watched seemed to tell a different story.

Again, I really do wish the best for Scott and hope he continues to make music for a long time. I just wish the writer wouldn't have gone there.

I was. And trust me, it was neither brilliant nor badass.

I have not yet seen Scott perform live this year, but based on what I've read so far, it seems that he is deserving of some praise. This article, though, is borderline comical. And Scott really doesn't need that.

This is exactly right. And that was maybe the only time it's been true.  Can I steal this thread here? Just to say this (again) - I hope that No. 4 gets remastered to turn that album into something as listenable as Purple or Core. Can you imagine "Down" played with the sound clarity of Meatplow? Awesome.
K. Sorry.

I don't like praising him like a delusional fan, because I'm not, I tend to give credit where it is due and I will say that there has been improvement. In comparison to where the band started, they sound tighter in my opinion and as far as Scott is concerned, he's doing alright vocally. Definitely seen worse days. I'm highly critical of his vocals, personally, so to others it may be a more vast improvement than I'm making it out to be.

This guy calls every single album that ever comes out a game changing masterpiece.
