CORPUS CHRISTI — Stone Temple Pilots, one of the biggest rock bands of the 1990s, is coming to the Coastal Bend fresh on the heels of their first album in nine years.

Lead singer Scott Weiland and company will be rocking the Concrete Street Amphitheater Monday, Sept. 27. Tickets go on sale Saturday at the venue and Ticketmaster outlets.

L.A. fuzz-rockers, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, will open the show. Stone Temple Pilot’s new self-titled record has only been out about a month but has been receiving strong reviews from critics, including their new single, “Between the Lines.”

Rolling Stone magazine said it was their “most focused (record) since 1992’s ‘Core,’” and gave the album three and a half out of five stars.

Over the years STP has earned 15 singles in Billboard music chart’s top ten list, and scored a Grammy Award in 1994 for “Best Hard Rock Performance” with their song, “Plush.”

In the last few years band members have splintered off into various side projects, most notably Weiland’s group, Velvet Revolver, which included members of Guns N’ Roses.

For ticket prices, call the Concrete Street Amphitheater box office at 884-8085 or Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.

My mother and step-father went to the show. They said the band looked and sounded great just like the previous night (they went to the Austin show, too).

The boys' skipped Sex Type Thing, however, because some rowdy fans were throwing beer bottles on the stage and hitting people in the front rows. This occured during Down and the lights came on and stopped the song midway. It really pissed Scott off so they went straight to the encore.  :-[

Other than that all went well. Dean gave my step-father his slider (twice). The first time it got knocked out of hands so Dean went and got another one! What a class act! He gave it to him because he recognized my step dad from the night before in Austin. He noticed them right when he came out on stage. They stood in the same spot ( Front-row Center).

STP looks good on this leg of the tour no matter what disturbances occur!

Badass that your father-in-law got Deano's slide piece.  Can't believe idiots that go to shows to throw bottles around.

I can't believe you haven't gotten a slide yet! Try to catch Dean's eye next time you're at a show and they play Big Empty.

Some guy threw a bottle at Scott during Creep at a show I went to. Scott watched him throw it, so the guy got kicked out.

Searched for a review of this show and couldn't find one, but I found this article.  I was not able to attend because of the rescheduled date.  Already had a full weekend planned.  Bummer.  I did see them in Austin the night before though.  They were awesome!

It was after dinner one night, about 8 o’clock, and you could see the wheels spinning in Robert’s head, like ‘I've got an idea
oh man! what time do you have dinner? I still have 2 and a half hours of waiting. Nothing to do with anything, but shocking! :P
