BelowEmpty Interview: Doug's part
« on: April 27, 2009, 07:21:31 AM »
As far as we know, you recorded something like 47 songs for "Happy In Galoshes". 20 are on the album, 1 is the iTunes exclusive. What do you plan to do with the rest? (Tyrant)

There are a bunch of songs that were finished and he didn't think they were appropriate for HIG- hopefully they'll make it onto something. I'd like to see them all get put out.

Will we ever hear your version of the song called "Happy"? Yeah, Pharrels came out first, but the sample of your version sounds FAR better. Can you at least play it in it's entirity on one of the upcoming Softdrive Show episodes? (Tyrant)

Also I've been trying to get permission to release "Happy" the song to the fans. We can not put it on a record or sell it in anyway because Pharrell won't sign off on it but that doesn't mean we can't just let it out- Like a bird! Let it go! Let it be free. It's not doing anybody any good cooped up on a hard drive!

Have you recorded any material since "Happy In Galoshes" release? (Tyrant)

We have not recorded anything new. But we have recorded a lot of live stuff.

If you have to choose a favorite song in HIG, which would it be? is there a less favorite? (Shangri)

My Favs are "pictures and computers" and "Crash".

Was Depeche Mode cover "But Not Tonight" recorded FOR "Not Another Teen Movie" soundtrack or was it the track you already had in your pocket? It sounds like it was recorded for "Happy In Galoshes" (Tyrant)

Nope. BNT was recorded for that movie. They asked us to cover a song from the 1980's and that's what Scott wanted to do. Everything we record sounds like it could be on HIG because I have a style and Scott has a style and when we out them together we end up with stuff that sounds like HIG unless we try really hard not to.

We've seen in the SDR Show that you guys are working on new songs for the tour...any hopes of hearing some more 12BB songs live, or maybe even breaking out some "The Man I Didn't Know" or "Pictures and Computers"? (VegasCrackerman)

We are probably going to play a new 12bb song or 2. And some new HIG songs on this upcoming tour. I'm not sure yet which ones.

How do you choose which song will be part of the set list? Why is Tangle out? (Shangri)

Honestly some songs don't play as well live. That's a big part of it. Also it's obviously up to SW. That's about the only 2 deciding factors.

I'm not a big VR fan, but I ADORE "You Got No Right". Any plan of adding that to your solo shows? (Blue)

No plans for "YGNR" as of yet. Sorry.

What was the setlist for San Diego show? (Float and 207 Grand Opening at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego on April 4, 2009)

Fall to Pieces
Interstate
Paralysis
KMS
Be Not Afraid

Will we ever see the Shangri-la dee da documentary? (Lazy Divey)

I don't know what happened to the Shangri Documentary. They sure spent a lot of time and money on it. You'd think they'd put it out. They had those fucking cameras rolling almost the whole time!

Maybe it's scratch vocals for the new STP record?
