Dude, thanks so much!

I'm a idiot (everybody knows). Few months ago I deleted it from my PC.

Someone already said: this song seems had been written for my dad and me.
Whatever they say I am, that's what I'm not!

I'm not sure if this has been discussed but I would love to know why 'The Man I Didn't Know' isn't on the standard release of Happy as its by far the best song on the Double disc version and possiby the best SW solo song to date. I was blown away by it!

If every release were dictated by one persons opinion we'd have 10 trillion versions of STP/Weiland/VR/AoA/Talk Show albums.  :)
I know I could personally re-arrange most of STPs albums to include what I feel would be the right songs in the right order.

Personally I think the single disc version of Happy nailed it just about right.  The disc 2 songs are generally a touch more experimental or "out there" as some might say.  Definitely some gems on disc 2, but really those songs are catering more to the hardcore fans, IMO.

This is an amazing song, my favorite Scott Weiland solo song to date and one of my favorite songs ever. Just brilliant. I love it.

Well guys, i learned the song with the chords that appears on "ultimate-guitar.com" but ive been trying to find the tablature for the solo and i just cant find it anywhere :(
if anywhere knows a web page where it is shown or any guitar player around here who can make up the tablature for the song, it would be amazing!

I know this is an old, old thread, but that's my point for posting.
Can you believe this song debuted 6 years ago with that live performance now? I remember downloading this track and being excited about new Weiland material, while also following VR at the time.  I swear the last 6 years went by more quickly than the 10 years preceding it.

I'm digging into another old track, based on a recent Doug episode.

So, this song was originally written FOR Tim McGraw. He didn't think it was special enough so he didn't buy it. "It wasn't a hit", as Doug put it. So Scott kept it and was really excited about it. That's why he booked that late night appearance to perform the song, even though there was no release date, no availability, nothing to promote.

Doug questioned that a bit, like "who does that?" but he also said that was one of the qualities he admired about Scott. The music excited him and he wanted the fans to hear it even though it would be years before it was available.

He said, it wasn't the only time that Scott pulled something like this off. The Leno "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas" was also in this vein, though it was Xmas time when he did that. But again, the Xmas album wouldn't come out for 2 more years.

Watching these videos, it seems like Doug is well aware of the "business" mistakes that were made over the years - and there were plenty - but many times, as he states, it was difficult to convince Scott not to do something. He regularly refers to him as "the boss" and they were following the boss' orders.

I think that's one of the more endearing qualities that Scott had. He seemed to be genuinely excited by creating something new, and by changing things up, and by sharing it with people. Thanks for a revisit to these old(er) threads, and please keep keeping us informed about Doug. The guy is very interesting and clearly has a lot of nuggets.

I remember watching the show and then waiting for it to be released. I was so happy when it ended up on Happy.

It's funny to think it didn't even end up on the standard edition... It should have been a single IMO.

Couldn’t find the video on YouTube anywhere, probably been blocked. I hadn’t seen it for years and really wanted to watch it. Managed to track it down on Facebook!!

Great performance, great song. Should’ve been on the single disc release of Happy for sure.

The audio of the live performance is still on YouTube.  The video has been gone for four or five years.

Yeah I even tried uploading the video myself recently but it was automatically blocked due to a copyright complaint. Why on Earth is it not allowed to post a video of a performance from 2005 on the Carson Daley show?!

Doesn’t make much sense.  It was up for a week or two in 2015 or 16, then they pulled it.  That’s when I found the audio.
