Most fans on Pearl Jam's message board LOVE STP.  It's mainly asshole fans of indie bands that don't like STP and bring up the bullshit comparison.

STP Shows: 5/1/08, 6/24/08, 12/31/08, 7/1/09, 5/25/10, 6/5/10, 10/29/10, 9/22/12, 5/30/13, 9/1/13
Velvet Revolver Shows: 7/22/06, 9/15/07
Scott Weiland Shows: 12/14/08, 12/8/11

I for one, have never seen how people can say STP ripped off or copied PJ. I mean, the music might be of the same genre, but no way are they completely alike. I like Pearl Jam. I LOVE STP! When I was younger and both these bands were emerging on the music scene, I knew I was a fan of STP over PJ way before I became a STP fanatic. I mean, it's annoying to hear people say that Scott was trying to sing like Vedder. Just complete BS! Scott is in a class of his own as far as lead singers/front men are concerned. It's like saying the Rolling Stones are Beatles rip offs.
have fun, have fun, have a whole lot of fun!

the main comparison was the fact that Scott had the Vedder Warble.

Although Layne Staley did it too, but Layne's wasn't bass-y

And the Brendan Obrien thing didn't help.

Finally we get someone out here praising STP in the media instead of slaughtering them.
I have a hard time agreeing with "Sour Girl" as the #1 reason, but I won't complain.
Also loved the bit about Big Bang Baby. The "Inner Bowie's" just didn't quite get through to Kretz and the DeLeo's.

to Ben Rayner Pop Music Critic no! it was Pearl Jam ripping-off Stone Temple Pilots. Pearl Jam then hire Brendan O'Brien( sTp's 5th man) on their 2nd effort to sound like sTp and the rest of seattle followed. ;) (=^;^=) :D .Period

STP actually used Brendan before PJ as Core was recorded in 1992 and VS in 1993

'The rest of the band always seemed less at ease with their inner Bowies, but its singer had obviously spent a lot of time staring at the cover of Aladdin Sane.'

I love that!

Unpredictable
Amazing Songwriting n melody crafting Scott Weiland
Psychedelic and catchy Dean Deleo
Groovy, almost lead-like bassline thumping Rob Deleo
Just about enough-perfect and versatile perscussionist Eric Kretz
Badass stage presence
Subtle yet says a lot lyrics from Weiland about anything from record labels to stuff v wouldn have thought of! Crazy two - three word liners too :D
Great Insight at interviews
Always something different, non-repetitive techniques song to song yet having a trademark, a style.
Not a single bad song, Stuff that grows on u and keeps u comin back for more STP!!!!!!!!!!

well, there u go... :)

As someone mentioned before...

...Pearl Jam used Brendan for Ten in 1991. So...

Brendan remixed the version that came out in 2009.   Rick Parashar produced the original version of TEN that was released in '91.
