Part of it is that Brett is most likely just a guy running a website that gets ever so much enough traction that he needs to pound content out to stay quasi-relevant. Combine this with a modern environment where there isn't much going on with rock or newsworthy and small sites like that need to produce content to have readers coming in.
I'm not trying to excuse whether or not there are some click bait articles, but the fact is that a website needs content, and a news website of any kind declines basically immediately if the content falls to more than even only a day old.
I've seen it in my own writing endeavors, although I will say that I have never written a click bait article, ever. We should be clever enough writers to not have to.
