Here's my thoughts of sonic similarity. What makes it hard for me to imagine these recordings on any previous release, though, is that Dean's approach guitar producing, playing and tracking -to me- sounds so different after the 2003-2008 hiatus, that it's instantly recognizable as post-2008.
Mighty Joe Young Demo: Six Eight (intro/chorus)
Tiny Music: Middle of Nowhere
Talk Show: Thought She'd Be Mine, The Art Of Letting Go
No. 4: Six Eight (rest of the song), Reds & Blues
Shangri-LA DEE DA: Just A Little Lie, Finest Hour
Army of Anyone: Roll Me Under, Already Gone
Self-titled (2010): Guilty, Meadow, Never Enough, Good Shoes, Forget Forever
Interestingly, I realize now that I hear no Core or Purple in here at all. Not that I wanted or expected them to re-visit that sound again. When I want to hear that music, I'll pop in those discs.
