You've obviously never dealt with addicts before. If everyone around him is positive and supportive about him killing himself and his career, what reason does he have does he have to stop?
Him realizing the horrible things that he was doing to himself was the only way he could have been saved. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. And him being surrounded by yes men who remained positive no matter how horrifying shape he was in didn't help.
As for him not having love everywhere, that is total bullshit. He had his mother, his step-father, his wife, his step kid, a band full of people who seemed to love him... He also had Mary and his kids, who he pushed away, and his bandmates in STP and some of his band mates in VR, who he also pushed away.
The guy had nothing but love surrounding him.
That's not true and you know it. Nothing but love? The last time he was trending on the internet before he died was because of Corpus Christi. He was very aware of all the criticism then and before that. Different things work for different people, and don't try and assume what I've been through because I've been more connected with drug addiction than many people. There is no one size fits all cure and making a depressed person more depressed is not always the answer. The mirror was held up, as you said, and he died. So how are you defending that? Because guess what? It didn't work
It didn't work because Scott was to far in denial to accept that he needed to change.
But pretending he was alright when he was in the worst shape of his life would have been even worse for him. If not for Corpus Christi trending, he probably would have died within a couple weeks of that show... The notoriety of that event at least seemed to make him temporarily try to change.
As for internet trending equaling love, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Scott had multiple loving families, loving parents, and three bands who cared about his well being. Not many of us are half as lucky as he was in regards to how many loved ones he had.
But the simple matter at the end of the day is that Scott just couldn't be saved. He had people trying to wake him up to the terrible shape he was in, he pushed them away. He had negative press all around him telling him how far he had fallen, he elected to ignore it.
And yes, he was surrounded by loved ones feeding him positivity and ignoring the tragic shape he was in-- as you seem to believe every one should have-- and he died anyway.
