The newly released "Only Dying" remaster sounds compressed/brickwalled to hell. It's...loud. "Sex Type Thing" and the "Wicked Garden MTV Unplugged" are the same way. Too loud and harsh! No dynamic range. It's getting up there with the loudness on those first and second Oasis albums.
It worries me that the remaster teasers we're getting will transcend down to the actual Core album itself. In my view, it needed no remastering at all(most albums mixed/mastered from the 90s to present really don't). "Core", like AIC's "Dirt", was already mastered at above normal dB back in 1992 compared to other records of the time.
A great example of remastering done right with dynamic range fully intact is Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger". It's excellent. It's warm. It tastefully accentuates and opens up the low's, mid's and highs of every song.
The DeLeos and Kretz perplex me so much with their direction on this 25th anniversary bundle but I digress. It is a privilege to finally hear Wicked Garden isolated from the bootleg TV broadcast I have. Also, I can't wait to have "Andy Warhol" as well.
