Stone Temple Pilots News / Re: "Roll Me Under" Offcial Music Video

Pretty lame honestly. Vocals are spotty and they released this way too late. And I’m not sure if you can call a live performance a “music video”.

I’m with Plushman on this one. Brett, looks like you’re valuing clicks over fandom. Not going to judge you for it, that’s your prerogative. But it’s obvious.

Seeing them follow Jimmy Eat World and Tenacious D makes me cringe.  Oh well, they just need to keep pumping out good music and putting on fantastic shows...

All of this discussion is making me wonder what Jeff Gutt might have been able to do on self titled 2010...

Great point. It absolutely could have gone in either direction and unfortunately, we will never know. However, I think great discussions have been had on this website recently where when we discuss the 2010 album people are absolutely making the important distinction between the music and the melodies, which are two completely different things. My understanding with STP on how they arrange songs is that overall, Scott was responsible for the lyrics and melodies while the rest of the band creates the music. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, but I think most bands do follow this formula.

I always felt Scott shined when there was more room in the song. Atlanta, Hello It’s Late, and Creep are good examples. When you have what we had on the S/T 2010, Scott really didn’t have much room there and it seemed as if the music was written in such a way that it would dictate the melodies without them even existing yet.

I think the fact they weren’t together with Scott was a big issue. That’s on him.

I’ve always put more of that 2010 album on the uninspiring instrumentals... after hearing what gutt has done with the Deleos and Kretz I cannot say that anymore. Scott was not scott in most of those reunion days. I’ve argued And created so much noise to defend scott even at those terrible times in the reunion days.

Self titled was probably lack luster for his efforts at that time. It’s sad to say.

Oh, I totally agree.  Scott's fault or not, they all mailed it in.  I'm not going to lie though, I still like the album :)

That's a great point.  I distinctly remember Scott praising the music on Blaster as having a lot of space between the notes.  It certainly allowed him to be more creative than what we heard from him on the self titled album.

The Wicked Garden / Re: Random STP mentions
« on: March 01, 2018, 04:34:02 PM »
In a random online search for STP news, this article came up...
http://www.vulture.com/2018/02/queer-eye-recap-season-1-episode-7.html#comments

Basically, its a recap of an episode from the Netflix Series Queer Eye and mentions the subject of the show having an STP poster in his room. So I decided to check the episode out.

The shows is about 5 guys who basically help jump start a random guys life (fashion, health, confidence, etc). So this guy Joe lives at his parents house, and the episode starts with the 5 guys going through his bedroom.

He has a full size STP poster (I have to aswell, No.4 Era) on his wall, along with a collage of black and white photos of the band by his door, a full color SLDD album cover poster above his green bay packers banner, and I believe another photo of the band sitting on the grass.

Anyway, was kinda cool to see. There was no other band posters or photos present, so I'm guessing he is a diehard fan. If anyone is interested in seeing it and has Netflix, its called Queer Eye and is season 1 episode 7, Below Average Joe.

And just like that, I'm going to watch my first episode of Queer Eye tonight haha

General Discussion / Re: Chester Bennington SUICIDE?¿??¿?¿¿?!!
« on: July 26, 2017, 04:00:09 AM »

What happened with Scott and Chester with STP in 2013-2015 had no effect IMO on their lives ending.

Chris Cornell was still with Soundgarden, and he killed himself.  If STP hadn't fired Scott, he easily could have died on a tour bus on an STP tour.  If Chester had never sang for STP, he still would have been dealing with the loss of a close friend who killed himself in 2016, and also Chris Cornell's sucide (which is said to have helped push him over the edge).  Ultimately these were still guys who dealt with depression and drug addiction/alcoholism, regardless of what band they were in/job they had.  They could have been mechanics or car salesmen and met the same end.

No effect? Hmm...we'll agree to disagree but there's a good chance that the negative external factors that were band-related certainly didn't help either of them.   Maybe they both would have circummed to the same fate but the band drama and fans possibly hastened it. STP camp specifically for being blind loyalists of Scott. I was one of them.

Sadly, this partially explains it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZC_-zeWYMYo

I watched this over the weekend.
Heavy.

He goes on to say that at the beginning of making the most recent LP album, he was a mess. I suppose that's late 2015 / early 2016.
Clearly, he's had battles for years, but I wonder if/how the STP split and/or Scott death may have impacted Chester. As we know, it was a lifelong dream to front STP, only to have to withdraw from it and see Scott die only a couple months after.

I just wonder.

I've been struggling with how STPs decision to fire Scott played into both Scott and Chester's demise.  What if STP had just went on hiatus, what if Chester never joined STP.  Does this change the outcomes?  The injection of Chester into STP had to of wounded Scott at the time.  Sorta like finding out your buddy is f'ing your girlfriend.  And the pro Scott STP fans had to have wounded Chester.  Sorta like having the family reject you when you were just trying to help.

I wonder if the Deleo's decision to fire Scott and replace him with Chester lead to the demise of both???

Just thinking out loud here.  A lot of what if's and wonders.......

Well freaking said. This is the first time that I've posted in awhile, but I just had to chime in and say that the fans certainly had the potential to negatively impact Scott's and Chester's life towards both their ends. The past is in the past and we need to move on from a sad reality, but it makes you wonder how truly destructive celebrity fame can be...

Scott Weiland / Re: Final Scott's good performance ever

I thought the performance that he did with the Wildabouts on Sessions X towards the latter half of 2014 was amazing.  Yeah, his voice was a bit strained, but I was impressed.

Nice rendition of Big Empty...

That's so weird, I'm doing a song with Robert on the same day... same time.  Everyone is welcome to that too.  It will be in North Hollywood on Radford, near the In-N-Out Burger...  Those are good burgers.

I'm sorry Smokey, you were over the line, that's a foul.  Mark it zero.

As an aside, I was playing a board game with some buddies last year and at one point during the game, I said "mark it 8 dude".  One guy at the table excitedly says, "dude, you've seen The Big Lebowski?"  I told him, of course, and I kid you not, he tells me that Jimmie Gilmore (Smokey) is his grandfather.  It's cool to have just two degrees of separation from the great Smokey haha
