i listened to the entire album constantly since tuesday. i like it...but it's the worst album they have made. the first 4-5 songs are good but don't hold a candle to the first 4-5 songs off the rest of their albums. dare if u dare is the most embarrassing song they have written. i don't feel the same energy with this album.  it's not even close as being as good as army of anyone's solo album and contraband or libertad. but still better than most stuff out there. the boys have lost their edge. despite not having layne, musically the new aic record is freaking awesome, if it had layne's vocals it would be their second best album. but jerry, mike, and sean still made something special and not lost their edge.

The new AIC album has the same sound as all their other ones. That's not "special" at all. They just took old songs and gave them a little different twist. It's a rehash album. At least STP has managed to add new sounding songs to each of their albums and not remained having the same old boring sound. In fact, their new album is my favorite STP album. I think it is a great come back album and don't think any of the songs are "embarrassing" but in fact I think all the songs are written masterfully. That's the mark of a great band that can continue to write new sounding songs and not just take old material and rewrite it.

I'm going to say this as so many of us have said before. If you want STP's new albums to sound like any of their previous albums just listen to those albums instead because they are never going to rewrite old material and become boring.

1. STP
2. SLDD
3. No. 4
4. Tiny Music
5. Purple
6. Core

Core and Purple have too much of the same sound throughout each of those albums. They are good freshman and sophomore albums but sound really raw. Not diverse enough. I think STP has a little sound from each album and shows what they are made of. I think each of their albums has shown that they have gradually progressed as a band and STP shines above them all.

Just my opinion.

I broke down and couldn't wait until the 25th and downloaded the torrent.

This is by far my favorite STP album!

When I read Brett's and Rik's review of the ablum I was so pumped and when I broke down and downloaded the torrent I was blown away. I listen to the new songs every chance I get.

I really hope they release Fast As I Can. That song kicks ass!

Can't wait for my deluxe copy to come in the mail!

Not sure if anyone cares but here are my favorite songs in order.

Fast As I can
Huckleberry Crumble
Take a Load Off
Peacoat/Hazy Daze (too close to call)
Between the Lines
Dare if You Dare
Bagman
First Kiss on Mars
Maver
Hickory Dichotomy
Cinnamon

I've only heard Between the Lines, Hickory Dichotomy, Bagman, and Huckleberry Crumble. I only chose to stream those from Amazon because I saw our boys live in March and heard them then anyways.

Damn all the sounds clips and full songs streaming is so tempting but I think I'm going to continue to wait until the 25th.

Sounds like there is a lot of positive feedback and an overall great vibe regarding the new album. I am so pumped up for this!!!!

Damn those 30 second clips are tempting and I'm loving the reaction to them as well as the album reviews but I think I'm waiting until the 25th to hear the rest of the songs I have not heard live or on Amazon.  :)

Love when Huckleberry kicks it into high gear around 1:55, sounds like a classic STP song to me.  So far I am very happy with the 4 songs off the new album!

Amen!

Huckleberry Crumble is easily the best sounding and most complete song of all the ones I have heard thus far. No reason this should not be a single that I can tell. Awesome bridge and guitar solo.
