The Wicked Garden / Re: Dean and Robert are Shameful

loungefly - I don't have time to go back and read the posts but you sound pretty reasonable so I doubt I was referring to you. Seems like we actually agree.

This is definitely not about Scott Weiland vs Robert/Dean to me. I'm an STP fan and equally admire each member of the (real) band. I could not get myself to ever enjoy Velvet Revolver because Scott was fronting another band. I'll give you another example. I remember around 2000 STP was on Howard Stern and somehow Dave Coutts' name was brought up. Howard mentioned that he thought Scott would have done a better job, etc. etc. Scott's reply was something along the lines of "yeah he blew". To me that was really disrespectful and rubbed me the wrong way.

Blue - You know perspectives can be interesting man. I actually saw that interview and unlike you, I came away with a different opinion of Dean's demeanor. It bothered me that when they were discussing Scott, Dean abruptly changed the subject, turning it into a joke that everyone laughed at. It all seemed very disrespectful.

1999-2002 were the golden days of STP. Go listen to the banter between Scott and Dean when they went out on that radio tour in 2000, particularly the one in Southern Studios. There was a lot of love back then. Just purely from a humanistic standpoint, forgetting about being a fan of the band, I am really put off by Dean and Robert's composure in the months after Scott passed. They definitely have a chip on their shoulder. Go back and look at the KROQ interview after STP played with Chester for the first time live. The host asked about Scott, and they behaved like giddy little school girls. That's not how professionals compose themselves.

Completely agree RE Sex and Violence. But it's really just the beginning. After the first 1-2 seconds of the song sting the eardrums, it's generally fine.

I am surprised no one else agrees about Down. The vocals are too quiet, especially the last chorus.

It looks like many of you have missed the point of my post. But others have not, so thank you.

This thread is not about whether the rest of STP should move on as STP or not. I have an opinion on that but that's for a different thread. This is about the way they are composing themselves in the aftermath of Scott's death.

The Atlanta video they released as a tribute to Scott had a somber, respectful tone, which is how you would expect these guys to come across after Scott passed, having grown up together as a band of "brothers" for so many years.

Anyway it all just rubs me the wrong way. Especially Dean. Cracking a joke about killing their singer? Come on man. I've been following STP since the beginning and this is hard to see.

Anyone else notice that the vocals on Down are difficult to hear? Always found that strange. You can barely hear Scott on the chorus.

As a lifelong STP fan, listening to these recent interviews with Dean and Robert make me cringe. These guys are way too jovial for Scott having just passed away in December. Listen to what Dean says here at 14:05: http://www.sixxsense.com/media/podcast-interviews-SIXX_interviews/video-stone-temple-pilots-on-sixx-26728749/Awful.

The Wicked Garden / STP Reunion Was Imminent?
« on: December 08, 2015, 04:44:53 AM »
I had no idea Dean Deleo had a Twitter account, but with the recent passing of Scott, I decided to snoop around and see what others close to him were saying on social media. What I found on Dean's site was interesting. Over the past few years I read multiple interviews in which Dean basically said he'd never want to work with Scott again. There was a noticeable softening of that stance in recent interviews where he started to praise Weiland's work in the past.

Then, what I saw on his Twitter account posts on 11/27 (prior to Scott's passing) raised an eyebrow. He retweeted an article about Scott and his performance at the Gramercy Theater.

I don't remember anyone pointing this out. Did something like this slip by without notice? I have to assume it meant warming relations between Dean and Scott. I think an STP reunion was imminent. Tragic that we will never them together again.

haven't posted here in years. from the videos posted, this is the best weiland has looked on stage in years. he looks as comfortable as he did at their peak 1999-2002. this is great.

anyone else agree? the unofficial "mastered" version someone made years ago blows away the version on the deluxe album. weiland's vocals are way more clear and his melody is better. i can't even listen to the new one.

this may be meaningless but i figured i'd share it with the stp fans of the world.

on youtube, if you type in "stone" it autofills to "stone temple pilots" as the first search option (it's based on popularity). over the last few years, it used to fill to "stone cold steve austin" and "stone sour" before stp. now stp appears to be the most searched item starting with "stone".

anyone know what libertad opened with?

The album debuted at number five on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 92,000 copies in its first week; as of October 12, 2007, it has sold 222,000 copies and had fallen off the charts.

thanks. it's disappointing that stp's new one couldn't surpass libertad.

1. weiland really needs to stop doing that stupid left arm and hand maneuver that he's been doing live since stp regrouped. it's dumb.

2. the only good thing about hickory dichotomy is the chorus. weiland more or less ruins the song with the way he "sings" the verses.

he was slithering around.. shimmying like the old days..

anytime anyone says something like this i really wonder if they realize just how ridiculous weiland was on stage years ago. to make a statement like this is almost like insulting him when he was in his prime.
