I think if Thought She'd be mine is gonna be a single...the lat 90 seconds needs to be chopped off for radio...its the same line repeated over...and no offense to the band...but the last 45 seconds sounds like a xylophone from a super mario world video game...

!

Actually reminds me of Atlanta.

Roll Me Under

Yeah reminded me of Atlanta too, I don't think it's cheesy at all.

Probably the song that most reminds me of old school STP, a definite stand out for me.

I don't want to get all philosophical on here, but I'm glad that some of you can faithfully say that "he's in a better place". For me, I don't have that. I was brought up believing it, but somewhere along the way, I lost it. And so I approach the subject as, when a person passes, they cease to be. I know some folks may view that as a sad thought or way to live. But it's all I have right now. And for that reason, it makes me view someone's passing as a more definitive end. Thus reading those phrases of "wherever he is, hope he finds serenity" leave me somewhat empty - though I understand and appreciate the intention.

I totally hear where you are coming from.  I guess I'm glad he's not fighting that battle anymore - he didn't seem to be getting any happiness from his music, he just seemed to be going through the motions.  I don't think it would have been impossible for him to have found happiness again without drugs/alcohol, but it seemed like the odds were always massively stacked against him.

Thinking back on Scott's life probably post VR, I can't help but think of what Eddie Vedder said onstage after Michael Jackson had died, "it feels like we lost him a long time ago".  I saw STP twice within a few days when STP reunited, at Brixton and the Download festival - I thought Scott sounded pretty strong, but it seemed like there was something missing in his performance, and his performances seemed to go on a downward spiral from there.

I'd echo what Dean said, in his prime, Scott was absolutely untouchable, a rock star for the ages.

I don't really have anyone that I can share my feelings with at the moment, it's hard to explain that someone you didn't know's death has hit you hard, but this has knocked me for six.  I think the cycle had played out so many times, that I just assumed Scott would rejoin STP in the future and they'd go on as usual.....

they'd be dumb not to make "Dare If You Dare" a single... that chorus is money.

Absolutely, I think it's their best chance to turn this shitty situation around.

"First Kiss On Mars" is the song of the year.
It would be a crime not to release it as a single.

Absolutely, perfect single material.

People need to enjoy the album for what it is, and stop bitching about what it's not.  They've never made the same album twice, to me this is just their pop-rock album, just as Core is their grungey album etc.  These are all well written songs, which make for a really cohesive record, perfect for the hot summer days ahead - I really couldn't be happier with it.  Oh and one final thing, why do people insist on making out like this album has taken 9 years to make?!  Like they've been storing up 9 years worth of material!!

Hell with the nitpicking.  They did fine.  Was it perfect?  No...but who cares.  They aren't robots.  Scott looks healthy, the band seems happy, and it's rock 'n roll.  Just seems some have started to dissect every move so much that they have forgotten how to just enjoy the band.  Most of the little things being harped upon (fish/tits, Eric deadening a snare) wouldn't have been noticed by anyone other than the diehards, so let's all just chill a little.

Amen, what is wrong with people?!  I really couldn't care less if he forgot ONE word, it was a solid performance, end of.

I dig Bagman, not STP strongest tune but theres something to it.

I agree, once I get past the initial "Bagman" (which instantly makes me think of the Batman theme tune) it's all good.

I love how gloriously retro sounding this record is, yet it still sounds totally modern.  So many bands go over the top with the retro vibe and it just ends up sounding like bad pastiche.  Like Wolfmother, not that they are a terrible band, but I just don't think they bring anything new to the table, they don't really put their own twist on it.  STP seem to strike the perfect balance, giving nods to the past, but it's unmistakeably them.

First Kiss On Mars is wicked, surely this has got to be a single, plenty of cross-over potential.

I definitely believe this is definitely one of the weaker songs on the album...

You're crazy, easily one of the best!

So many of these songs could be singles, Dare If You Dare is a no brainer, that song will likely be massive.  Fast As I Can, Take A Load Off, First Kiss On Mars, Hazy Daze, Cinnamon, Maver - would all make decent singles, very radio friendly stuff.

Gotta give it up for Scott's singing on Maver, he hits some really nice big notes in there.

Such bullshit. Is there any way to trick their website to think we're from New Zealand?

There's got to be, but I'm nowhere near clever enough to figure it out!

Oh for fuck sake, it's midnight now here in the UK, and I've been glued to the net all day, do I wait for someone to rip it or just go to bed?!
